The Cardinal have taken four of the last five contests between the two teams, including the last three. Amazingly, the Cardinal has yet to get their running game on track, as they come into this meeting with Notre Dame ranked 120th in the nation in rushing yards per game at 104.2.
Stanford Cardinal
Yes, you read that right! The Cardinal rank 120th in rushing yards per game, but that’s a little misleading. Bryce Love got shut down vs. San Diego State in his first start, but don’t worry he is just fine. He had a nice outing against USC in week 2, putting up 136 yards on 22 carries and a score. Keep in mind, Love sat out of the UC Davis game, so he’s only played in three of the four games for the Cardinal in 2018.
You can certainly tell that K.J Costello worked on his game in the off-season. The junior QB out of Coto De Caza, CA knew he was the front-runner to lead Stanford into 2018, and he’s doing just fine so far, thank you. Check out the free College football picks from Cappers Picks experts today!
When Bryce Love came out struggling to open the season against San Diego State, Costello took the reins and threw for 4 TDs and 332 yards, lifting them to the 31 – 10 win.
Costello already has over 1,000 yards through the air, and he is going to smash his 1,573-yd. total from a season ago to bits!
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
The Fighting Irish are probably not going to allow Bryce Love to beat them by himself, so they, too, will have a big game plan surrounding where #20 is on the field at all times.
Luckily, Love has gotten away from trying to become a complete back, as his pass catch total has certainly not contributed much to the offense over the last 2 seasons and into this year.
That should make the Irish defensive coordinator Clark Lee’s job a little easier to contend with. Notre Dame is only giving up 19.2 PPG from their four outings this year, and last weekend’s stomping of Wake Forest makes all the numbers look better.
Notre Dame held Wake’s QB Mr. Hartman to 110 passing yards, and no TD passes were made either! All of you who thought Wake Forest was all that and a bag of chips may now stand up and exit the building!

Ian Book has apparently secured the starter’s role for the Irish at QB this weekend and beyond. I guess it depends which outlet you want to listen to, because Irish Head Coach Brian Kelly is trying to keep everyone guessing as to who could or might start this weekend.
Brandon Wimbush has accumulated a 12 – 3 starting QB record for the Irish, but Kelly showed his hand last weekend, and let Ian go out and do his thing!
He did it well!
