The South Alabama Jaguars visit the Arkansas State Red Wolves in Week 6 on Thursday night at Centennial Bank Stadium in Jonesboro. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM ET on ESPN2, with Major Applewhite’s Jaguars trying to build on a 3-2 start and 1-0 Sun Belt record.
South Alabama is coming off a 52-35 home win over ULM and is 3-0 in Mobile, but the Jaguars are still searching for their first road victory. Arkansas State enters 2-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play under Butch Jones after a 23-20 loss at Louisiana.
South Alabama brings the bigger scoring punch, but Jonesboro hasn’t been friendly to the Jaguars.
Arkansas State leads the all-time series 8-6 and has won the last two meetings by a combined three points. South Alabama is just 2-5 in Jonesboro, so another tight one would surprise absolutely nobody.

Hollins gives South Alabama the more explosive recent passing profile. Owens, meanwhile, has settled down considerably after throwing all four of his interceptions in the opener at Memphis, going four straight games without another pick.

Arkansas State’s job isn’t complicated. The Red Wolves need to contribute at home, where they’ve won both games, and Owens has protected the football much better since his four-interception opener.
I don’t need Arkansas State to become Oregon here, just hold up its end of the bargain.
The game state also works for the Over. If South Alabama gets ahead, Arkansas State has a QB completing nearly 67% of his throws and enough receiving options to keep chasing instead of folding up shop.
And if the Red Wolves control things early, I’m comfortable with the Jaguars playing from behind. Hollins has already shown the ability to create chunk plays through the air, so a slow first quarter wouldn’t have me reaching for the panic button.
That’s really the bet for me: two offenses with different strengths and multiple paths to keep scoring into the fourth quarter.
Considering we’re talking about Sun Belt defenses, asking for perfection would be downright rude. Take Over 57.5.
