The SMU Mustangs will travel to Orlando and take on the UCF Golden Knights from FBS Mortgage Stadium this Wednesday night on ESPN2. Central Florida will open as the three-point favorites here, with the total opening at 63.5
HISTORY: UCF and SMU have crossed paths ten times over the years as Conference USA & AAC rivals. UCF leads the all-time series 8-2, but SMU won last year’s meeting, 55-28.

SMU Mustangs
SMU jumped out to a 2-0 start with wins over in-state foes North Texas and Lamar. The Mustangs suffered their first defeat in a tough road loss to Maryland, and they couldn’t knock off a third Lone Star school when a rival came to town last time out.
In Week 4, SMU lost to TCU, 42-34, dropping to 2-2 against the spread.
Tanner Mordecai nearly through 40 touchdowns last season, and while he’s been steady early, he’ll need to cut down on the turnovers to contend in AAC this season. The fifth-year senior threw a pair of timely interceptions in both non-conference matchups with Maryland and TCU, and he can’t give UCF this chances this Wednesday.
Mordecai has thrown for 1,385 passing yards with 12 touchdowns to five interceptions.
Tre Siggers returned after leading the Mustangs in rushing in 2021, and he’s got the bulk of the workload early again this season. He scored in the season-opening win over his former school North Texas, and he scored three times last week against arch rival TCU. Siggers leads SMU with 200 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
Rashee RIce has eclipse the 2,000-yard mark for his career with this great start. The senior wideout has established himself as the number one option, recording 130 yards or more in each of the first three games. Rice ranks among conference leaders with 34 receptions and 565 receiving yards. Rice transfer Jake Bailey has also come in with authority, catching eight passes for 163 yards and a score versus TCU.
UCF Golden Knights
Central Florida opened their season with a win over South Carolina State, but a Friday night loss to Louisville would follow. UCF then took the three-hour trip down to Boca Raton and beat in-state foe Florida Atlantic by 26 points. The Golden Knights got another crack at the ACC last time out, and delivered.
In Week 5, UCF defeated Georgia Tech, 27-10, failing to cover the tough 21-point spread.
John Rhys Plumlee has come over from Ole Miss and found a home here in Orlando. The senior quarterback tossed four touchdowns in his debut, and he totaled a career-high 460 yards (339 pass, 121 rush) in the win over Florida Atlantic. He’s been killing teams with both his arm and legs, and should get the SMU defense a lot of trouble Wednesday.
Plumlee has thrown for 827 passing yards with five touchdowns to three interceptions, while rushing for 390 yards and four touchdowns.
Isaiah Bowser and Johnny Richardson have split touches through the first month of the season. Bowser scored in each of the first three games, and he leads the backfield with 237 rushing yards. Richardson led the team in rushing last season, and he’s got 218 yards during the month of September.
Javon Baker has been Plumlee’s number one guy after coming over from Alabama. The junior wideout has caught five passes or more in the first three games, and he leads UCF with 257 receiving yards.
