An upset win over 2nd ranked Ohio State has the Nittany Lions in the AP Top 25 and proved to be James Franklin’s first impressive win in his short tenure at Penn State.
Now, they will hope to avoid a letdown as they are double digit road favorites and face a Purdue team that will be fighting for a much needed win.
Penn State Nittany Lions
Penn State has always played the Buckeyes closely at home so a close game wasn’t too, too surprising.
However, very few saw this upset coming as the Buckeyes have looked to be one of the most complete teams in the country.

When looking at the box score, it is difficult to figure out how Penn State won the football game.
They were dominated in basically every statistical category, they forced zero turnovers, allowed the Buckeyes to possess the ball for more than 60 percent of the game, and converted just 2 of 13 third down attempts.
But, they won and that is all that matters.
Now, Franklin and the Nittany Lions will have more pressure on them and a target on their back.

The Nittany Lions have won three consecutive Big 10 games – all at home – and are now looking at a favorable schedule down the stretch if they can take care of business on the road.
They will get Iowa and Michigan State at home and then three of the Big 10’s weaker teams all on the road – Purdue, Rutgers, and Indiana.
Penn State should be favorites in all of those games – which could make things very interesting in the Big 10 if they were to run the table.
However, this week they will need to avoid a letdown against Purdue – who had Nebraska on the ropes at home last week before falling apart in the second half.
On paper, Penn State should handle them easily but most of the concern here for the Nittany Lions is mental – not overlooking their opponent after a big win over Ohio State.
Purdue Boilermakers
After the firing of Darrell Hazell, the Boilermakers responded with a good showing against unbeaten Nebraska.
This week, they will get another team that could be overlooking them and will be hoping to complete the upset – after falling apart in the second half last week against Nebraska.
The Purdue offense has the ability to put points on the board – as they did in the two games before Nebraska scoring 69 total points in those games.
Purdue’s defense has struggled mostly against the run and will have to slow down Saquon Barkley this week if they hope to complete the upset.
They will be motivated to avoid letting this season become a lost season and should be ready to go for this noon home game.

David Blough has been real good at times for the Boilermaker offense but has struggled with turnovers – 11 interceptions in 7 games.
If Blough can protect the football and lead long drives, Purdue certainly has what it takes to pull off the upset.

I like Penn State to come out slow in this noon road game. Surely, Franklin is trying to make sure they don’t overlook Purdue but he hasn’t been the best motivator in his time there.
Going on the road and playing early in the day after knocking off the number 2 team in the country has all of the makings for a letdown.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Purdue +11.6
Even more so than Purdue covering for the whole game, I like the first half under. Even if Penn State does find a way to prevail by a bunch of points, I think it will come in the second half.
BONUS Pick: First Half Under 30
