This Big 12 matchup has the #20 ranked Cowboys going up against the Wildcats in Kansas.
Oklahoma St. has a 4 game win streak on the line and Kansas St. has won their last 2 games by 8 total points.
Oklahoma St. Cowboys
Mason Rudolph has not thrown an interception during this 4 game win streak. Against an undefeated West Virginia team he threw for 3 touchdowns and 273 yards in the upset win.
Facing Kansas St. this week look for him to put in another big performance for the Cowboys.
True freshman Justin Hill faced a very good West Virginia front seven last week, and couldn’t find running lanes to have much of an impact. He ran the ball 19 times for only 54 yards.
This week against Kansas St. he will have trouble running the ball again as the Wildcats gave up only 39 yards running to the Iowa St. starting running back.
Jalen McCleskey had a decent game against the Mountaineers.
He got 11 passes for 66 yards and was able to get open seemingly at will. If he can provide that type of separation in this game he shouldn’t have any problems with getting a 10 catch, 100 yard, 1 touchdown performance.
West Virginia is known for their high powered air it out offense, but last week the Cowboys were able to slow down the passing attack of the Mountaineers.
The Wildcats defense gave up only 212 yards through the air but will have to focus on stopping the run as West Virginia routinely had open lanes for their running backs to pick up big yardage.
Kansas St. Wildcats
Jesse Ertz has continued to be one of the better dual threat quarterbacks in the Big 12 this year.
His passing numbers won’t blow you away but his ability to scramble, and execute designed runs make him a big factor in this game. He ran for 106 yards against the Cyclones last week.
Facing Oklahoma St. he will need to throw the ball a lot better this week as that offense can score in bunches.
Charles Jones couldn’t make any plays last week against Iowa St. He ran the ball 12 times for 37 yards (3.1 yards per carry).
If he isn’t able to find running lanes it will be a long day for the Wildcats offense as they can’t afford to have many 3 and outs.
Deante Burton had his best game of the season against the Cyclones. He finished the game with 5 catches for 72 yards and a score.
I look for him to find the end zone for the second straight week and have 85 yards receiving as well.
Kansas St. will have to shut down the passing game if they are going to have any chance at the upset this week.
With Rudolph playing at a high level it wouldn’t surprise me to see the Wildcats stay in 3 and 4 man fronts to make passing lanes harder for Rudolph to throw through.
