The Fighting Irish have had a great season, although losing to Georgia and Michigan has taken them completely out of the Playoff picture. At best they will finish 10-2 and will likely end up in a pretty good bowl game.
Last week the Fighting Irish trashed Boston College, beating them 40-7. Their offense put up 501 yards on the Eagles. They had 252 yards rushing in this game on 44 carries. This is an average of 5.7 yards per carry. It was a little surprising how well they ran the ball, considering they average just 177.3 yards per game on the ground.
Their passing offense did not have to do all that much, but they saw Ian Book throw for 239 yards and three touchdowns. Look for Notre Dame to put more of an emphasis on throwing the ball this week given how bad the secondary is for the Cardinal.
Another note is that since the blowout loss to Michigan, the Irish have been lighting up the scoreboard. In their last four games, they are averaging 37.8 points per game.

The Irish defense has also played much better since allowing 45 points to the Wolverines. In this same four game stretch, they are allowing an average of 13.5 points per game. They are ranked 3rd in the country at defending the pass, allowing 153.5 yards per game. This should allow them to have success against the Cardinal because that is what Stanford will be trying to do.
Stanford Cardinal
The Cardinal are having a miserable season to put it bluntly and with the loss to California last week, they will not be playing in a bowl game. This was an embarrassing loss to a Cal team that is terrible offensively.
That calls into question the motivation of this Cardinal side. How much effort are they going to put into this game knowing it will be their last game of the season? They really cannot play spoiler because Notre Dame has been out of the College Football Playoff picture for about a month now.
Against Cal, the Cardinal had 344 yards of offense. This seems decent against a pretty good defensive team, but roughly 82.2% of their yards came through the air. They had just 61 rushing yards on 24 carries.
Passing the football is their only strength, as they rank 41st in the country and are averaging 259.6 passing yards per game.
