This Big Ten matchup will see the Northwestern Wildcats take on the Illinois Fighting Illini.
Last season the Wildcats beat the Illini 24-16.
Northwestern Wildcats
The Wildcats are having a miserable season, and have lost eight of their last nine games. Last week, they did a decent job coming back in the game with Minnesota, but they still were outclasses an ended up losing 38-22. They really have nothing play for in this game, so the motivation should be in question.
Northwestern may have scored 22 last week, but they still have one of the worst offenses in the entire country. They average 284.8 total yards per game. This 127th in the country. They are especially bad at throwing the football, averaging 122.6 yards per game through the air.
Running the football is their only thing they are decent at, but they still average just 162.2 per game, ranking 65th.
Their points scored per game is another story, as they are averaging a 128th best 15.2 points per game. In conference games this season, the Wildcats are averaging 10.6 points per game. There is no reason to believe that all of a sudden the Wildcats are going to start scoring, so do not look for much from them here.

Call me crazy, but overall the Wildcats are not that bad of a defensive team. It is more the fact that their offense cannot score so their defense is constantly trying to stop the other team. They are 37th overall in total yards allowed per game, 38th in passing yards, 59th in rushing yards and 49th in points allowed. Given their record, this is not bad at all.
If Northwestern can actually manage to score, they will have a chance to at least cover this game.
Illinois Fighting Illini
The Illini have looked decent at times this season, with their most notable win coming against Wisconsin. They lost last week to Iowa 19-10, but having already clinched bowl eligibility, they will want to improve their bowl game before the season ends.
Illinois’ offense is not exactly a juggernaut, averaging 28.8 points per game. This mark is in the lower half of college football. They are not a good passing offense, ranking 109th and their rushing offense ranks 81st in the country.

The defense for the Illini is just average at best. Even in a loss to Iowa, they allowed just 19 points. They are allowing an average of 25.1 points per game this season which ranks 51st. They are best at defending the pass, something the Wildcats are terrible at.
The only concern I have for the Illini defense is their ability to defend the run. They are 91st in the country in the area, so that will be the key in shutting down the Wildcats.
Northwestern and the word offense do not go together, so the Illini should have another dominating performance.
NCAA Football Handicapping Trends
- Northwestern are 0-4-2 ATS in their last 6 games.
- Illinois are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games at home.

Illinois has improved under Lovie Smith and I believe they will win this game without much issue.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Illinois Fighting Illini -9
The Illini have covered six games in a row. Northwestern’s offense is so bad that I believe Illinois will basically be the only team scoring. I will take the Fighting Illini to win this game by at least two scores.
