Riding high following a 33-24 week one victory over North Carolina, #9 UGA should open the floodgates this Saturday against the decidedly inferior Nicholls State Colonels.
On paper, this looks like an open and closed week two rout.
However, last season a heavily favored Bulldog grouping needed overtime to overcome feisty mid-major FBS denizen, Georgia Southern.
Like the Eagles, Nicholls State is an upset-minded smaller program; although the Colonels’ 3-8 2015 record represents a steep decline in quality compared to their 2015 Go Daddy Bowl Champion counterparts.
With that stated, amid a juggling quarterback situation, UGA will have to maintain focus against Tim Rebowe’s Southland Conference challengers.
Otherwise, another close call opposite a heavy dog could be in order for the top-ten ranked Bulldogs.
Nicholls State Colonels
The Colonels haven’t posted a winning season since 2007. During a trying 2015 campaign, Nicholls State failed to win a non-conference contest en route to a 3-8 finish.
The one silver lining for the 15′ Colonels was a season-ending two-game winning streak.
Senior Quarterback Tuskani Fiargo leads an experienced Nicholls State group into battle. Overall, the Colonels return nine defensive starters and three of their top four options at wide receiver.
Look for Fiargo to make the most of his familiar passing targets, while also using his legs in an attempt to orchestrate what would be a monumental upset.
#9 Georgia Bulldogs
Entering week 2, the Georgia Bulldogs have ample reason to feel confident following a season-opening victory over North Carolina.
Heisman hopeful Nick Chubb returned to form, shredding the Tarheels’ defense for a game-high 222 rushing yards.
Last season, Chubb suffered a horrific knee injury against Tennessee. Also during week 1, Freshman phenom Jacob Eason provided resounding answers to UGA’s quarterback quandary.
Though the touted Eason did not start versus North Carolina, he recorded an impressive 8/12 completion ratio.
Furthermore, Eason’s clutch 51-yard toss to Isaiah McKenzie set up William Ham’s go-ahead 29 yard field goal in the fourth quarter. As of press time, Eason has been taking the starters’ snaps in practice.
NCAA Football Handicapping Trends:
- Georgia enters week two 1-0 against the spread
- Last season Georgia was 6-1 in home games
- Over the past two seasons, Nicholls State’s overall record is 3-20
Free Week 2 NCAA Football Prediction
This game will provide an excellent litmus test for both Nick Chubb’s health and Jacob Eason’s ability to direct an offense.
While Georgia struggled against their most recent over-matched foe, that shouldn’t be the case this week. Look for a confident Bulldog group to run up the score against the Colonels.

The Bulldogs’ reserves will see plenty of action this Saturday. While the spread and overall outcome of Saturday’s encounter is a near-lock, interesting side-wagers could still make bring life to this outing.
