New Mexico Lobos
It was an improvement over the week before, but New Mexico’s 27–24 loss to Colorado State didn’t have Lobos supporters leaving the game happy last Saturday.
New Mexico dropped its second straight Mountain West game and third conference loss overall, essentially guaranteeing that it will not defend its MWC Mountain crown after winning the division last season.

The Lobos were destroyed, 38–0, at Fresno State the week before but were much more competitive in last week’s game. They gave up 21 points in the second quarter, however, which forced them to play catch-up for the rest of the evening.

In the end, New Mexico was never able to break through and get on top of Colorado State, which is a perfect 4–0 in the Mountain Division of the Mountain West Conference.
The loss drops the Lobos below .500 for the second times this season. They won their opener before losing two straight, followed by two wins in a row. Now the Lobos sit 3–4 with five games remaining, including three on the road.
The running game is impressive with seven 100-yard rushers. That ground game is neutralized, however, if the Lobos get down again early. The defense must be better early in the game this week at Wyoming.
Wyoming Cowboys
The Cowboys are 2–1 in the conference and still in contention for the Mountain Division title. They might not be able to lose again if they want to catch Colorado State, though.
They host the Rams next week but can’t look past this game before then.
Wyoming’s three game winning streak was snapped at Boise State last week. The Broncos are 3–0 and also ahead of Wyoming in the Mountain Division.

So the Cowboys have to get back on the saddle, back at home, against a decent team that hasn’t had the best season in New Mexico. The defense will key in on stopping the Lobos’ running game.
The offense, meanwhile, has to get the passing game back after being held in check by Boise State last week.
Josh Allen is their guy at the QB spot. He’s thrown for over 1200 yards and eight scores on the season but six interceptions is too many; that number includes two last week at Boise State.
Though he is on track to improve over last season when he tossed 15 passes to the other team. Allen’s ball security will be key to Wyoming’s prospects at home.

Free Week 9 NCAA Football Pick
I like Wyoming as a small home dog. The Cowboys opened as two point favorites and are now one point dogs. The Cowboys must not look ahead to next week.
