This will be an important cross divisional matchup in the Mountain West Conference. The Aggies are 2-0 in the Mountain division and the Wolfpack are 1-1 in the West division.
Nevada Wolfpack
The Wolfpack are coming off a nice 41-38 win against the San Jose State Spartans.
Their offense was clicking in this game and were able to put up 541 yards of total offense.
[dfads params=’groups=220&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
They ran the ball for 189 yards, but this was on 51 carries. This gave them an average of 3.7 yards per rush. Their leading rusher was Toa Taua, who ran for 160 of the 189 yards. He also added a touchdown on the ground and gained 4.7 yards per carry.
Their quarterback, Malik Henry, threw for 352 yards in this game. He had one passing touchdown and two interceptions.
They are now averaging 22 points per game in Mountain West Conference games after getting demolished by Hawaii a few weeks ago.
The only chance they have in this game is to score a ton of points. This really depends on which offense will show up because we saw just a different team against the Spartans than the one against the Rainbow Warriors a few weeks ago.
The defense for this team is just not good. They allow 39 points per game, which ranks 126th in the country. In just two conference games, their defense has looked even worse, allowing 46 points per game.
They are especially bad at defending the pass, allowing 297 yards per game overall, 121st in the country. Just like how they are allowing more points against Mountain West teams, they have allowed 389 passing yards per game since the start of their conference schedule.
Their only saving grace is their run defense. They are a top 35 team in the country in this regard, but the key to keeping this game close will be shutting down the pass.
Utah State Aggies
The Aggies are coming off a bye week after getting blown out by the LSU Tigers. To be fair, they never really had a chance in this game and it showed as they put up just 6 points in a 42-6 loss.
More importantly, they are 2-0 in conference play and have looked good in their two games against familiar opponents.
Starting with the offense, they are scoring an average of 28.5 points per game against conference foes. They also average 410.5 yards per game.
Their strength has been passing the ball this year, however in conference play their passing yards per game is only at 248.5. This is about a 40 yard drop-off from their normal 289 passing yards per game on the season as a whole.
They normally run the ball decently well, but in their last Mountain West game specifically, they broke out for 242 rushing yards. Because the Wolfpack secondary is their weak point, look for the Aggies to be throwing the ball a ton. This could in turn open up the run game even though Nevada does a decent job at stopping teams in this area.
Defensively, the Aggies have done a solid job overall. Even after giving up 42 points to LSU, they still allow 25.8 points per game. This is 58th in the country. If you look at just their conference opponents, or teams they play every year and know, they allow an average of 20.5 points per game.
Their run defense in particular has looked amazing against other Mountain West teams. They have allowed an average of 85 yards per game, so they will be looking to slow down a Nevada run game that looked good last week.

Free Week 8 NCAA Football Pick
With Utah State coming off a bye, it gave them plenty of time to prepare for a big conference game. That said, I think they win this game with no issue.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: OVER 59
Nevada’s defense has been terrible and I think Utah State will take advantage and score a ton of points. I look to the over because Nevada has a few play-makers as well that could help keep this game close for awhile.
