Wolf Pack vs. Miners Gameday
The Nevada Wolf Pack visit the UTEP Miners at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso on Saturday, October 10, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET on FS1.
Nevada enters 1-3 under Jeff Choate and returns from its bye week.
The Wolf Pack have dropped three consecutive games, including their Mountain West opener. They’ll be looking for a sharper performance after having an extra week to prepare. Rest is nice, although it doesn’t automatically fix missed tackles.
Nevada brings the stronger defensive numbers into a matchup featuring two teams desperate for conference momentum.
UTEP is 1-4 under Scotty Walden and has also lost three straight. The Miners are preparing for their first-ever Mountain West home game.
Nevada leads the all-time series 3-1.
The teams last met in 2019, when the Wolf Pack won 37-21 in El Paso. Nevada has taken three consecutive meetings. UTEP would certainly prefer to make its new conference membership memorable for a better reason.
It’s Week 6, Nevada Wolf Pack vs. UTEP Miners, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Nevada Wolf Pack vs. UTEP Miners Odds & Last 5
Nevada opened as an 8.5-point favorite at -111 against the spread, with a -345 moneyline. UTEP was priced at +275, and the opening total was 49.5 points.
The Wolf Pack most recently lost 36-33 in double overtime against Air Force.
Nevada previously fell 27-20 at Middle Tennessee and 20-7 against Montana State. Its lone victory came in a 49-14 season-opening win over Western Kentucky. That opening performance now feels like a rather distant memory.
UTEP suffered a 61-7 demolition at New Mexico last Saturday. The Miners also lost to Oregon State and Michigan after opening the season with a defeat at Oklahoma.
Their only victory was a 51-10 win over Texas Southern.
Both teams have experienced lengthy offensive droughts, although Nevada has been considerably more competitive defensively. The opening spread favors the Wolf Pack, but the total presents a different betting question.
Compare the odds at your preferred sportsbooks before placing a wager. A half-point can make an enormous difference. Bookmakers don’t send sympathy cards when you lose by the hook.

Miners Stats
UTEP has scored 82 points through five games, generating 649 passing yards and 682 rushing yards. Neither phase has provided consistent production.
The Miners have surrendered 207 points, averaging more than 41 per game.
Defensively, UTEP has collected three interceptions and recovered four fumbles. Those takeaways have provided occasional bright spots. Unfortunately, the scoreboard has rarely been impressed.
UTEP’s defensive problems have been substantial, and its offense hasn’t consistently supplied enough help.
Safety Kode Lowe recorded an interception against New Mexico, while linebacker Shay Smith contributed eight tackles. The Miners need more dependable tackling throughout the lineup.
Running back Tavorus Jones has provided 196 rushing yards this season.
Lamar Sperling has contributed in a reserve role, while Carver Cheeks remains part of the receiving rotation. The Miners need more from their available playmakers. Isolated highlights won’t repair an offense that has struggled to string together productive drives.
Wolf Pack Stats
Nevada has scored 109 points through four games, generating 739 passing yards and 787 rushing yards. The Wolf Pack have been more effective moving the football on the ground.
Dominic Kelley leads the rushing attack with 341 yards and three TD’s.
Herschel Turner has also emerged as a productive backfield option. His ability to break tackles gives Nevada another way to move the chains. The offense has more potential than its record suggests.
Defensively, Nevada has allowed 97 points while recording eight sacks. The Wolf Pack have generally kept opponents within reach.
Linebacker EJ Smith leads the nation with 55 tackles.
Smith has also contributed 30 solo stops, while Dylan LaBarbera has provided another physical presence along the defensive front. Nevada needs that group to maintain its discipline. Giving up avoidable explosive plays has been costly enough already.
Wolf Pack vs. Miners QB Matchup
UTEP has relied on EJ Colson Jr., who has completed 49 of 77 passes for 541 yards and seven TD’s. His availability remains uncertain after leaving the New Mexico game with an injury.
Colson’s status makes UTEP’s starting assignment worth monitoring.
Raymond Moore III is the alternative, having thrown for 78 yards in limited action. He’s considerably more dangerous as a runner. Moore has gained 294 rushing yards this season, including an 86-yard TD against New Mexico.
Nevada has used Carter Jones as its primary QB. He has completed 42 of 70 passes for 572 yards, two TD’s and two interceptions.

“ Anybody can post a prediction. CappersPicks backs up its sports picks with opinionated matchup analysis, experienced handicappers & documented betting performance. Pad that bankroll one day at a time! ”
Jones has dealt with a head injury, leaving his availability worth monitoring.
AJ Bianco provides another option after throwing for 116 yards in limited action. His experience in Nevada’s offense gives Choate some flexibility. The Wolf Pack must still avoid asking an inexperienced QB to manufacture everything himself.
Moore’s mobility could create problems for Nevada if he starts. Jones offers the Wolf Pack more established passing production, although his health remains important.
Neither team has a completely settled situation entering the weekend. That uncertainty makes clean execution particularly valuable, especially in obvious passing situations.
Nevada Wolf Pack vs. UTEP Miners bottom line: Nevada’s stronger defensive foundation faces a UTEP offense searching for stability, with both QB situations deserving attention before kickoff.

Wolf Pack Miners Free Pick: Under 49.5
Here is my Wolf Pack Miners free pick: Under 49.5. The tempting argument is that UTEP’s defense can make almost anybody look like an offensive genius. That’s a legitimate concern, but I’m not convinced Nevada will turn this into a scoring contest simply because the opportunity exists.
I want the Wolf Pack playing from ahead, keeping the clock moving and making UTEP chase the game. A methodical favorite can win by double digits without producing a ridiculous score.
The danger is Nevada’s ability to break a long run against a defense that has already surrendered too many big plays.
That’s why I don’t want to see a string of short possessions and quick touchdowns. Give me drives that consume five or six minutes, even if a couple finish in the end zone. A 27-13 type of game works beautifully for this ticket.
I’m betting Under 49.5 because Nevada can control the game without forcing a fast tempo, while UTEP may struggle to keep pace on the scoreboard.
There is also the matter of how UTEP handles adversity. A team that falls behind early can start pressing, and pressing often produces more mistakes than points. Nobody ever accused desperation of being an offensive coordinator’s best friend.
My concern isn’t whether either team can produce an occasional explosive play. It’s whether they can sustain enough successful possessions to push this game into the 50s. I don’t see a compelling reason to pay for that kind of offensive efficiency. Give me Under 49.5.
