From a statistical technical perspective, Miami (Ohio) is one of the hottest teams in college football. The RedHawks became the first team in college football history to finish 6-6 after starting the year off 0-6.
At 5-7, the Mississippi State Bulldogs have the privilege to play in a bowl game.
This is a huge opportunity for a young team to not only play one more game, but also get all those extra practice reps as they prepare for their bowl game.
Miami (Ohio) RedHawks
The thing about this RedHawks team is the fact that they played some real close games early in the season.
The RedHawks lost to Eastern Illinois, Western Kentucky, and Cincinnati by a total of four, six, and seven points.
So, it’s easy to dismiss Miami of Ohio as a horrible team when they were at their lowest point, but for the most part they were competitive.
Contrast that with their wins, of their six wins only two of them were by one possession. Meaning that, for the most part, when they won they were handling their competition.
This is a solid team with a very good young quarterback in Gus Ragland who started in all six of the RedHawks wins where he threw for 15 touchdowns and no interceptions.
Mississippi State Bulldogs
Mississippi State is lucky to be in a bowl game this season. They are one of teams to make it to a bowl game with a losing record and they had to face the likes of Massachusetts and Samford.
Without scheduling those two teams they wouldn’t have made it to a bowl game.
It is worth noting that Mississippi State found their footing in a life without Dak Prescott.
In their first six games, Mississippi State was able to break thirty points just once – which was against lowly Massachusetts.
In their final six games, Mississippi State was able to hit 35 points in all but one of those games; which was against the best team in college football – the Alabama Crimson Tide.
So, I look for them to be able to move and score the ball on the RedHawks in this one and continue that momentum they found to end the season.

Free St. Petersburg Bowl NCAA Football Prediction
This is a game that both teams should be fired up for.
On paper, this looks like a trap game for the Bulldogs, but with how much they struggled this season and with how young they are, they are happy to be in the position and I believe they will make the most of it.

There is no line in this one, but more than likely, I’ll take Mississippi State in this one.
They have the talent on their side and I believe they will be motivated. Maybe not as highly motivated as the RedHawks will be, but enough to where their talent will overcome and win out late in this one.
