The Miami RedHawks will travel to their border state to take on the Kentucky Wildcats to kick off each of their seasons from Lexington, KY.
Miami (OH) is coming into this one after going 7-6 in 2021 and scoring 28.9 PPG. They have a ton of veteran players on their roster and they will be looking to use their experience to their advantage.
The Kentucky Wildcats are entering 2022 after another successful season in the SEC. Kentucky won their 4th straight bowl game and they scored the 8th most points in the SEC. They will be looking to attack in this one.
Miami RedHawks
The Redhawks will be bringing back their veteran quarterback, Brett Gabbertt, as he grew for 26 touchdowns and 3,600 yards in 2021. He looked great and will be looking to lead this offense in 2022. Miami (OH) is also returning the majority of their offensive line, as they also have a ton of experience.
Watch for Gabbertt to look for Mac Hippenhammer and Jack Coldiron, as well. Hippenhammer finished last season with 48 catches and Coldiron is an incredible downfield threat, as he can make big plays for this offense. They also ran for 148.9 yards per game in 2021.
On the defensive side of the field, the Redhawks were also solid. They allowed 23.1 PPG in 2021 and they gave up 368.9 yards of offense per game. Unfortunately, they did lose their leading tackler to Cincinnati and their top pass-rusher left for Virginia.
Kentucky Wildcats
The Kentucky Wildcats have slowly grown into a threat in the SEC, as they continue to make upgrades. In 2021, the Wildcats scored 32.3 PPG and they averaged 425 total yards of offense. Now, they have a new offensive Coordinator, as Kentucky hired Rich Scangarello. They are expected to have at least five of their eleven offensive starters back, as this is not a rebuilding year for the Wildcats.
They will start forner Penn State transfer, Will Levis, at quarterback once again. He finished 2021 with 2,800 passing yards and 24 touchdowns, and he ran for 9 more. He can challenge the opposing defense with his arm and his legs.
I would also watch for Alabama transfer, Javon Baker at wide receiver. He will be playing alongside veteran receiver Demarcus Harris.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Wildcats were decent. They faced multiple power-house offenses last year and they still held their own. In 2021, they allowed 21.7 PPG and they surrendered 340 yards per game. Like the offense, the Wildcats lost a ton of starters, but they also added multiple guys from the portal.

4* Free Week 1 NCAA Betting Prediction:
I can’t bet against the SEC at home in this matchup with a MAC school. Kentucky has only gotten stronger from last season and still have their team MVP in Will Levis.
They lost a few offensive linemen and multiple defensive players, but they revamped their team through the portal. The Redhawks’ defense also lost their leading tackler and their best pass rusher, as I don’t see their defense being as strong as it was in 2021.
I also expect Kentucky to be great against the run again this season, as they will force the Redhawks to move the ball through the air. This will allow them to create multiple turnovers and run away with this game.
Give me the Wildcats to cover this spread at home.
