Following a blistering start, including a lopsided week two win over then #21 Syracuse, Maryland looks to rebound vs. Rutgers this week after consecutive losses.
And the home-standing Scarlet Knights seem like the perfect accomplice to the Terrapins plans. Offensively shuttered, Rutgers has dropped three straight, being outscored 112-16 along the way.
Days after their recent 52-0 loss vs. Michigan, Scarlet Knights athletic director Pat Hobbs announced the firing of former head coach Chris Ash and offensive coordinator John McNulty.

In just over three seasons at Rutgers’ helm, Ash compiled an 8-32 record. Nunzio Campanile rises from tight ends coach to finish this season as the Scarlet Knights’ interim head coach.
Maryland Terrapins
With uncertainty surrounding Saturday’s opponent, Maryland enters enemy territory favored by 13 points. That margin is telling considering Maryland, too, has struggled of late.
After losing 20-17 vs. Temple, Maryland fell 52-0 last weekend opposite no. 12 Penn State. The Nittany Lions added 628 total offensive yards, and eight touchdowns opposite an overmatched Terrapins defense.
PSU quarterback Sean Clifford masterfully directed traffic, completing 26-of-31 passes for 398 yards and three scores. Aerial game intact, freshman running back Will Levis added two touchdowns on a day of free waltzes into Maryland’s end-zone.
Conversely, Terrapins signal caller Josh Jackson’s latest outing couldn’t have ended much worse. Consistently pressured, Jackson flopped completing just 10-of-21 passes for 61 yards and two interceptions.

Overall, Maryland lacked energy throughout as PSU made a spectacle of the teams’ latest meeting. The Terrapins will need far more than 128 total offensive yards today to regain its winning ways.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Though, unlike Maryland, Rutgers’ entire 2019 has been buried in one-sided losses and internal schisms. Ash and McNulty are casualties of a program which has 13 wins during its previous five seasons -including a 1-11 2018.
And with the Knights’ former tight ends coach now running the show, this weekend’s Rutgers offering should be even more disjointed than usual.
That take isn’t a knock on Nunzio Campanile, whose next highest level of coaching experience comes with high school power Bergen Catholic. It is simply a realistic look at the major transition taking place on the team’s sidelines.
And much wasn’t working from the Scarlet Knights’ sidelines or on-field product last weekend as Michigan righted its ship vs. Rutgers 52-0.
The Wolverines used 335 passing yards and five ground scores while escaping the previous week’s 35-14 loss vs. Wisconsin.
Michigan’s smash mouth offense and grinding defensive style, and three rushing scores from quarterback Shea Patterson, held Rutgers to 152 total yards.
Scarlet Knights quarterback Artur Sitowiski completed 17-of-24 passes for 106 yards and a strained 30.3 QB rating.

Free Week 6 NCAA Football Pick:
Today’s contest features two teams which haven’t added much offense in their recent competitive endeavors. However, as alluded to throughout, Rutgers seems stuck in first gear while Maryland is simply experiencing turbulence.
That stated, expect a rebound today from Terrapins quarterback Josh Jackson. While his Terrapins wont put up gaudy week one or two offensive totals, they will do enough to destroy the spread vs. Rutgers.

Meanwhile, behind a solid offensive and defensive display, Rutgers will add points while limiting a Scarlet Knights attack which cannot seem to open up this year.
