Big 10 rivals clash today as Maryland visits the Purdue Boilermakers while looking to regain early- season momentum.
Briefly ranked after deflating no. 21 Syracuse 61-20 during week two action, Maryland rebounded from a shutout Penn State loss by drubbing Rutgers 48-7 last Saturday. Though, the Terrapins’ recent 59-0 road setback vs. the Nittany Lions creates a vulnerable air around first year head coach Mike Locksley’s men.
Meanwhile, home standing Purdue has lost four-of-five one year after stunning Ohio State and playing Auburn in the Music City Bowl.

The Boilermakers’ slow start is mainly due to lost production and incoming players that haven’t acclimated at a competitive level.
For Maryland, high expectations accompany Locksley’s hiring. Last season, after shaping Alabama’s prolific offense, Locksley was named CFB’s top assistant coach.
Maryland Terrapins
And through their first two games with their new sideline general, Maryland sizzled scoring 142 points vs. Howard and Syracuse. However, flanked by injuries, the Terps averaged just 10 ppg in consecutive losses against Temple and Penn State.
Last week, opposite internally stricken Rutgers, Maryland rebounded behind two-way poise and balanced offense. The only negative from the Terrapins 48-7 win Saturday was starting quarterback Josh Jackson’s high ankle sprain.
Jackson is listed as day-to-day after throwing two touchdown passes vs. the Scarlet Knights. Reserve junior Tyrell Pygrome filled in admirably, completing 13-of-18 passes to help set up Maryland’s four ground scores.
Featured wideout Dontay Demus Jr. also did his part catching three passes for 94 yards and a score on a much-needed afternoon for Maryland football.

Overall, the Terrapins average 41.4 points per game and 218.4 rushing yards. Maryland’s defense allows 251.6 passing yards per game.
Purdue Boilermakers
Coming into this contest, passing has been Purdue’s lone bright spot through a labored start. Hobbled by virtually nonexistent rushing, Boilermakers quarterback Elijah Sindelar sports nine touchdowns against three picks while offering the 25th best FBS QB rating (73.9).
Sindelar may be able to find success at home against Maryland’s hit-or-miss secondary. If the senior QB finds enough openings, this contest could turn into a high-scoring affair. Though, a Boilermakers win is still unlikely because of the team’s glaring holes in other areas.
Purdue allows 452.8 yards per game and adds just 52.8 rushing yards. That one-dimensional flaw will allow a tighter Maryland defensive game plan.

Free Week 7 NCAA Football Pick
With or without Jackson, though preferably with, the Terps wield enough depth to beat up a bit on Purdue’s leaky defense.
Expect big ground numbers, with timely air strikes, as offensive maestro Locksley rallies his men for another sharp performance.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Maryland Covers
Maryland will pound and exploit Purdue’s defensive holes while gaining enough scores to jump over the spread. Meanwhile, Purdue’s passing game will keep the Boilermakers just within striking distance, yet never truly threatening, in today’s Big 10 matchup.
