Terrapins vs. Buckeyes Gameday
The Maryland Terrapins visit the No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes at Ohio Stadium in Columbus on Saturday, October 10, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:15 PM ET on Big Ten Network.
Maryland enters 2-3 under Mike Locksley, including an 0-2 start in Big Ten play.
Ohio State is 4-1 under Ryan Day and has won three straight games. The Buckeyes are unbeaten at home this season. Maryland has a considerably less cheerful collection of recent results.
Ohio State brings playoff ambitions into a matchup Maryland has never managed to win.
The Buckeyes lead the all-time series 9-0. Their most recent meeting ended in a 37-17 Ohio State victory in 2023.
This is also Ohio State’s Homecoming game.
The Terps would love to spoil the party, although beating a top-five opponent in Columbus is a rather ambitious way to fix a losing streak. The Buckeyes have little reason to overlook a conference opponent. Maryland needs its sharpest performance of the season to make things interesting.
It’s Week 6, Maryland Terrapins vs. Ohio State Buckeyes, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Maryland Terrapins vs. Ohio State Buckeyes Odds & Last 5
Ohio State opened as a 34.5-point favorite with a -9000 moneyline, while Maryland was listed at +4500. The opening total is 56.5 points.
The Buckeyes defeated Iowa 31-14 last Saturday, producing 484 total yards.
Maryland fell 48-23 at Nebraska after suffering a 54-3 loss to UCLA. The Terrapins also lost to Virginia Tech earlier in the season. Their victories came against UConn and Hampton.
Ohio State’s only defeat was a 24-23 loss to Texas. The Buckeyes have since recovered their momentum, while Maryland is searching for answers.
That difference explains the enormous spread.
The total presents a separate question, however. A dominant favorite doesn’t automatically produce a high-scoring game. Both teams’ ability to finish drives matters more than the size of the point spread.

Buckeyes Stats
Ohio State averages 357 passing yards per game, ranking among the nation’s most productive aerial attacks. The Buckeyes have plenty of ways to stretch a defense.
Jeremiah Smith leads the receiving corps with 44 catches for 823 yards and nine TD’s.
Bo Jackson has contributed 353 rushing yards, while Ja’Kobi Jackson has added 278 and six TD’s. The backfield gives Ohio State another way to move the chains. Ryan Day doesn’t need to abandon the ground game whenever a drive gets uncomfortable.
Ohio State’s offensive weapons make defensive mistakes expensive, particularly when Smith finds space downfield.
The Buckeyes have allowed 63 points through five games. Their defense has consistently limited opponents’ scoring opportunities.
Receivers Devin McCuin and Brandon Inniss were among the players listed as questionable entering the weekend.
Phillip Daniels, Christian Alliegro and Jay Timmons were also listed as questionable. Those availability concerns deserve attention, although Ohio State has considerable depth. The Buckeyes still have enough talent to make life miserable for most opponents.
Terrapins Stats
Maryland has scored 152 points through five games and generated 1,386 passing yards. The passing attack has been more productive than the ground game.
Iverson Howard has rushed for 211 yards and four TD’s.
DeJuan Williams has contributed 194 rushing yards and three TD’s. Chris Durr Jr. has emerged as a key receiving threat. He gives the Terrapins a dependable target when they need to move the chains.
Defensively, Maryland has allowed 151 points while producing 14 sacks. The Terps have struggled to maintain their discipline against stronger competition.
Freshman Zion Elee has contributed to the pass rush, providing a bright spot along the defensive front.
Maryland converted only two of its last 29 third-down attempts across two games. That’s a difficult way to keep an offense functioning. Punting repeatedly against Ohio State is hardly a recipe for a pleasant afternoon.
Terrapins vs. Buckeyes QB Matchup
Ohio State starts Julian Sayin, who has thrown for 1,530 yards, 13 TD’s and one interception. His accuracy has helped the Buckeyes maintain an efficient passing attack.
Sayin has developed a strong connection with his receivers, particularly on intermediate throws that keep drives moving.
Luke Fahey provides depth behind Sayin. He has attempted 11 passes for 203 yards, two TD’s and two interceptions in limited action. Ohio State has options if the coaching staff decides to give its starter a breather.
Maryland counters with Malik Washington, who has thrown for 1,288 yards, seven TD’s and six interceptions. His passing ability gives the Terps opportunities, but turnovers have been costly.
CP Is More Than Just Sports Picks!
“ Anybody can post a prediction. CappersPicks backs up its sports picks with opinionated matchup analysis, experienced handicappers & documented betting performance. Pad that bankroll one day at a time! ”
Washington has attempted 198 passes through five games.
Cardell Williams is the backup, with 63 passing yards and one TD in limited appearances. The Terps need their starter making smart decisions rather than forcing throws into crowded coverage. That’s easier said than done when the pocket starts collapsing.
Sayin operates behind a stronger supporting cast, while Washington has faced considerably more pressure to manufacture offense.
Both QB’s can make plays, but their circumstances are hardly identical. Ohio State can spread the field and attack favorable matchups. Maryland needs cleaner protection and considerably fewer mistakes to keep pace.
Maryland Terrapins vs. Ohio State Buckeyes bottom line: Ohio State’s superior passing attack and defensive consistency leave Maryland facing a difficult afternoon in Columbus.
Maryland Terrapins vs. Ohio State Buckeyes Football Betting Trends
- The Terrapins are 5-0 on the Over in their last five games as underdogs.
- Also, Maryland is 5-0 on the Over in their last five games after a loss.
- The Terrapins have a 3-0 record on the Over in games with totals of 50 or more in 2026.
- The Buckeyes have a 28-2 straight-up record in their last 30 home games.
- Additionally, Ohio State is 27-3 straight-up in games with totals of 50 or more in their last 30 games.
- The Buckeyes are 17-6 against the spread in their last 23 home games.
Terrapins Buckeyes Free Pick: Under 56.5
Here is my Terrapins Buckeyes free pick: Under 56.5. Ohio State can win comfortably without turning this into a track meet. A 38-10 final would suit me just fine, and nobody in Columbus would be demanding a refund.
Maryland’s biggest problem is extending possessions. When you’re constantly punting, you’re not contributing much to the total, although giving the Buckeyes short fields is the obvious danger.
That’s why ball security matters more to this wager than Maryland’s ability to produce an occasional highlight.
I’m betting on Ohio State controlling the scoreboard without needing a full afternoon of offensive fireworks.
There’s also the fourth-quarter question. Ryan Day has Indiana waiting next week, and keeping starters on the field unnecessarily would be a strange preparation strategy. A commanding lead could bring a considerably more conservative finish.
The risk is Ohio State scoring so efficiently that Maryland barely needs to participate. That’s entirely possible against this defense.
Still, a blowout doesn’t automatically mean an Over. I expect the Buckeyes to dictate the game, limit Maryland’s scoring chances and eventually take their foot off the accelerator. Give me Under 56.5.
