Neither team was all that good last season. Both are hoping this weirdo year can be a step in the right direction.
Maryland only won four games a year ago. They are looking to replace a lot.
Northwestern fell off the map offensively last season. Improvement there would help on both sides of the field.
Maryland Terrapins
Maryland has it tough in the Big Ten, their division is loaded and last year beating Rutgers was the only win they could muster in the conference. Things might be the same this season.
The Terps scored a respectable 25ppg last season but that is not going to cut it when you are allowing 35ppg. I am not sure where this team is likely to improve.
Josh Jackson is a senior quarterback. He might progress but he has only one returning lineman in front of him and the top running back is just a freshman. He might get killed back there.
When he can get the ball away the options are solid. Dontay Demus Jr. averaged 15ypc last season and scored 6 touchdowns.
Maryland is not a good team this season, but I was surprised the line was as big as it is or this one.
Northwestern Wildcats
The Wildcats were not themselves last season. They were 126th in the nation in scoring at 16ppg. It was one of the worst seasons they have had under coach Pat Fitzgerald.
Last year Hunter Johnson was supposed to be an upgrade at quarterback. The 5 star Clemson transfer was bad and next up Aidan Smith was even worse. Combined they had 4 TD passes and 13 interceptions.
Peyton Ramsey is a transfer from Indiana. With the Hoosiers, he showed what he can do as a dual-threat quarterback and he has immediately risen to the top of the depth chart.
The Northwestern defense was still good last year, giving up just 23ppg. Nine starters are returning there so they could be even better. They just need to find a guy to rush the passer.

Free Week 8 NCAA Football Pick
This is a lot of points to give up based on reputation. That is the play here, relying on Fitzgerald and that strong defense to be stout right away.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Northwestern -8.5
I am also a believer in Ramsey. He was good with Indiana and that was a good offense they have there. He has some good receivers to work with too.
Maryland is a wild card but odds are that any improvement they have this season will be of the incremental variety.
