This Saturday afternoon matchup features two SEC East foes. The Kentucky Wildcats, who still are in the race for the SEC East and the Missouri Tigers, who have basically been eliminated from the SEC title game, but will be trying to inch closer to securing a bowl game.
Last year when these teams met in Lexington, Kentucky came out on top 40-34. Now that both teams have improved, except this game to be a good one.
The Wildcats have taken major strides to improve their football program and have a 6-1 overall record to show for. Also, they beat Florida earlier this year for the first time in over 30 years. Last week, they played a sloppy game on the road in Nashville, but they scrapped out a win 14-7.
The Wildcats have had a ton of success on the ground this season, behind their running back, Benny Snell Jr. Snell Jr. has accumulated 893 yards and has 9 touchdowns through the first 7 games. Besides the running game, Kentucky has struggled mightily to have success through the air. If Snell Jr. can have a productive game, the Wildcats will have a good chance to pick up the win.
Believe it or not, Kentucky has the 2nd best defense in the country when it comes to points allowed. They are 12th in total yards allowed and 31st in passing yards allowed. If Kentucky is going to win they will need their secondary to step, because Drew Lock has proven that he can torch defenses.
The Tigers got a chance to get back over .500 when they crushed Memphis last week. They are now 4-3 overall and 0-3 in the SEC. While they basically have no chance to make it to Atlanta for the SEC Championship, they can take one step closer to a bowl game, while also play a spoiler in what has been a great season for Kentucky.
For a team that averages 501.1 total yards per game, you would think they would have a more impressive record. Their main offense comes from the arm of Drew Lock, who throws for an average of 301 yards per game.
Missouri’s is a lot of the reason why Missouri has not had the success they expected to. They allow an average of 30.9 points per game, an also allow 419 total yards per game. This has held the Tigers back with their offense who is know to put up points. Luckily they have had success defending against the run, which will be the key to shutting down the Cats and Benny Snell Jr.
