This Big 12 matchup features the Wildcats traveling to Waco to face the Bears.
Kansas St lost a shootout to Oklahoma St last week, and Baylor has lost 3 in a row.
Kansas St. Wildcats
Jesse Ertz has been a surprising player in the Big 12 this season.
He didn’t throw the ball particularly well against the Cowboys last week, going 12-18 for 87 yards, and 1 interception.
He was able to do a lot of damage on the ground.
The quarterback ran the ball 30 times for 153 yards and 3 touchdowns. It was his second straight 100 yard rushing game.
The problem for Kansas St is they face a very good quarterback in Seth Russell, and will need to match throw for throw to stay in the game, and I don’t think Ertz can propel them to victory on his arm alone.
Due to Ertz getting the ball 30 times last week, Charles Jones didn’t touch the ball much, but he made it count when he did. He ran the ball 7 times for 70 yards and should get more than 15 touches in this game.
He has only 2 touchdowns this season so don’t expect him to get into the end zone, but he should reach the 100 yard mark.
The Wildcats secondary was beaten badly last week.
They allowed Mason Rudolph to throw for over 450 yards and 5 touchdowns in the loss.
Seth Russell can put up similar numbers if given the opportunity, and I expect Jim Grobe to focus on getting the ball to his playmakers on the outside.
Expect another long day for the defense.
With the change in offensive philosophies from Art Briles to Jim Grobe, a dip in his stats should have been expected of Seth Russell, however the quarterback can still light up a defense.
He shouldn’t have any issues against the Wildcats secondary this week.
I look for him to throw 4 touchdowns and have over 300 yards passing, which he has only done twice this season.
Terence Williams didn’t do much last week, but with the indefinite suspension of Shock Linwood, the talented back should get a bulk of the carries this week.
Expect 20 carries for over 125 yards as the Wildcat defense will be too focused on stopping the passing game, which will open up lanes for Williams.
KD Cannon routinely beat the Cowboys secondary last week, finishing the game with 7 catches for 122 yards and 2 touchdowns. The receiver has been the go to guy for Russell all season long and will continue his strong play against a bad Wildcats defense.
The Baylor defense couldn’t stop the two headed monster of Joe Mixon and Samaje Perine last week, giving up 100 yards to each back.
If they can slow down Ertz and the running game, it should be an easy victory as Ertz does not have the arm to win a shootout with Russell.
