Jayhawks vs. Utes Gameday
The Kansas Jayhawks visit the No. 12 Utah Utes at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Saturday, October 10, 2026. Kickoff has been moved to 8 PM ET, or 6 PM Mountain, because of expected severe weather. The game will stream on the ESPN App, with the television network awaiting final confirmation.
Kansas enters 2-2 under Lance Leipold, including an 0-1 Big 12 record.
The Jayhawks have shown offensive promise, but their victories came against LIU and Middle Tennessee. Facing an unbeaten conference contender in Salt Lake City is a considerably tougher assignment. Rice-Eccles isn’t known for offering visitors a complimentary confidence boost.
Utah’s unbeaten start meets a Kansas team that needs its strongest performance of the season.
Utah is 4-0 under first-year coach Morgan Scalley and 1-0 in Big 12 play. The Utes are ranked 12th nationally and have won every game by at least 14 points.
Utah defeated Kansas 31-21 in Lawrence last November.
The Utes lead the all-time series 3-2 and have won three straight meetings. Saturday also brings Utah’s first football whiteout at Rice-Eccles Stadium, giving the home crowd another reason to get loud.
It’s Week 6, Kansas Jayhawks vs. Utah Utes, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Kansas Jayhawks vs. Utah Utes Odds & Last 5
Utah is favored by 15.5 points with a -698 moneyline, while Kansas is listed at +498. That’s a substantial price against a conference opponent.
The Utes defeated Iowa State 31-17 in their latest outing.
Utah has allowed no more than 17 points in any game this season. The defense has consistently limited opponents’ scoring opportunities, helping the Utes avoid close finishes. Those are the kinds of performances that make an undefeated record look legitimate.
Kansas hammered Middle Tennessee 55-0 in its last game. The Jayhawks previously lost 24-17 to Arizona State in London and also fell to Missouri.
The shutout was impressive, but the competition changes considerably this weekend.
With storms in the forecast, bettors should monitor the spread and total before kickoff. Compare prices at your preferred sportsbooks. Bad weather has a habit of making yesterday’s comfortable number considerably less comfortable.

Utes Stats
Utah has scored 173 points through four games, producing 1,062 passing yards and 914 rushing yards. The Utes have also collected 101 first downs, reflecting their ability to sustain possessions. It’s an offense that can move the chains without relying on the occasional highlight-reel play.
Wayshawn Parker leads the backfield with 328 rushing yards and five TD’s.
Braden Pegan leads the receivers with 264 yards and four TD’s. Utah has enough offensive versatility to prevent opponents from loading up against one particular threat.
The Utes have allowed just 41 points while recording 11 sacks. They’ve also collected five interceptions and recovered two fumbles. That combination of pressure and takeaways has made life miserable for opposing QB’s.
Opponents have averaged approximately 84 rushing yards per game against Utah.
That defensive discipline will be tested by Kansas’s productive backfield. The Utes must tackle cleanly and prevent routine gains from turning into extended possessions.
Offensive lineman Isaiah Garcia and tight end Kana’i Lopes are out. Defensive lineman Karson Kaufusi and tight end Semi Taulanga were listed as questionable in the midweek availability report. Utah has depth, but losing healthy bodies before a physical conference matchup is never ideal.
Jayhawks Stats
Kansas has averaged approximately 254 rushing yards per game, giving the offense a productive foundation. Dylan Edwards leads the backfield with 296 rushing yards and three TD’s.
Edwards provides explosiveness, but backfield depth has become a concern.
Yasin Willis remains sidelined with a foot injury. Jalen Dupree has helped fill the gap, although Kansas needs contributions throughout its rotation against a physical opponent. The Jayhawks can’t afford to become predictable on early downs.
Kansas has shown it can run the football, but Utah’s defensive front presents a serious challenge.
Defensively, Kansas has allowed 68 points while recording six sacks and three fumble recoveries. The Jayhawks haven’t intercepted a pass this season.
Defensive ends Leroy Harris III and David Santiago have helped establish a physical front.
The Jayhawks have been effective against opposing rushing attacks. Their results against stronger competition have been less convincing, however, and Utah will challenge their ability to defend both the run and pass. That’s a difficult assignment when the opposing offense doesn’t have to advertise its intentions.
Jayhawks vs. Utes QB Matchup
Utah starts Devon Dampier, who has thrown for 896 yards, nine TD’s and one interception. He’s completed more than 70% of his passes through four games.
Dampier has also rushed for 135 yards and two TD’s.
His mobility forces defenses to account for another runner. He can extend plays without immediately abandoning his passing options, which complicates coverage responsibilities. A defense that loses track of him for two seconds can spend the next 20 chasing the result.
Backup Byrd Ficklin has contributed 166 passing yards and two TD’s in limited opportunities.

Kansas counters with Isaiah Marshall, who has passed for 810 yards, six TD’s and three interceptions. His completion rate remains below 55%.
Marshall has also rushed for 234 yards, making him an important part of Kansas’s ground game.
Against Middle Tennessee, he produced 161 passing yards and 110 rushing yards. Utah will try to contain him before he reaches open space, where missed tackles can become expensive. The Jayhawks need his athleticism without asking him to rescue every possession.
Backup Cole Ballard is unavailable with a shoulder injury. Kansas has less experienced depth behind Marshall as a result.
Dampier has been the more efficient passer, while Marshall relies heavily on his athleticism. Both QB’s can extend plays, but Utah has surrounded its starter with more established scoring options. The difference is how consistently each offense can take advantage of those opportunities.
Kansas Jayhawks vs. Utah Utes bottom line: Utah’s defensive discipline and offensive balance give the unbeaten Utes a substantial advantage against a Kansas team still searching for consistency.
Kansas Jayhawks vs. Utah Utes Football Betting Trends
- The Jayhawks are 4-1 on the over/under in their last 5 games after a win.
- Kansas is 17-13 against the spread as an underdog in their last 30 games.
- Also, the Utes are 9-0 straight up in their last 9 games as favorites.
- Utah is 4-0 against the spread in their last 4 games after a win.
- Additionally, the Utes have a 7-0 straight-up record in their last 7 home games.
- The total has gone over in 8 of Utah’s last 11 home games.
Jayhawks Utes Free Pick: Utah -15.5
Here is my Jayhawks Utes free pick: Utah -15.5. I’m laying more than two TD’s with a home favorite, which means I need Utah interested in playing four quarters. A comfortable victory isn’t necessarily a winning ticket.
The Utes have covered the spread in four straight games following a victory, and that’s the kind of situational consistency I like. Coming off a bye, they also have extra preparation time for a Kansas team still finding its footing against stronger competition.
I’m looking for Utah to establish a lead before the game becomes a clock-management contest.
Utah’s preparation advantage and home-field edge give the Utes a strong opportunity to clear this number.
The weather is my biggest concern. A wet field and extended running drives can chew through possessions, which is hardly ideal when laying 15.5 points. That’s why finishing drives with TD’s rather than FG’s matters so much.
Kansas could make this interesting if it protects the football and avoids falling behind early. But the Jayhawks haven’t demonstrated they can sustain that kind of execution against a ranked opponent, particularly away from home.
I’m expecting Utah to control field position and force Kansas into increasingly uncomfortable decisions as the game progresses. The Utes don’t need to win a beauty contest, although covering by three scores would certainly improve the evening. Give me Utah -15.5.
