The Kansas Jayhawks will travel to Norman and take on the Oklahoma Sooners this Saturday on ESPN2. Oklahoma will open as the seven-point favorites here at home, with the total opening at 62.5.

Kansas Jayhawks
Kansas breezed through Tennessee Tech in their home opener, and they’ve unexpectedly kept the party going. The Jayhawks traveled and picked up big underdog victories over West Virginia and Houston, rewarding loyal bettors by cashing their win total of o2.5. The Jayhawks then defeated Duke in Lawrence, before opening Big 12 play with a win over Iowa State. Kansas earned the honor to host College Gameday last weekend, and despite the final result, they gave Jayhawk Nation something to remember.
In Week 6, Kansas lost to TCU, 38-31, improving to an impressive 6-0 against the spread this season.
Kansas’ magical season hasn’t been cut short, and it could very much well continue here with a monumental victory. If Kansas defeated TCU, there would be a crazy angle coming into this one, and despite last week’s blemish, beating Oklahoma right now would send them to a new low.
Kansas scores 39.8 points per game, while allowing 26.3 ppg.
Star quarterback Jalon Daniels is doubtful heading into this weekend, meaning former starter Jason Bean will be called upon this weekend in Norman. Bean brings a lot of experience to the position, and he nearly rose to the occasion last weekend. The senior quarterback admirably threw for 262 passing yards with four touchdowns to one interception versus TCU.
Devin Neal and Daniel Hishaw Jr. have done a good job splitting the touches alongside Daniels. Neal led the team in rushing last season, and he’s scored four touchdowns through the first six contests. Hishaw Jr. rushed for 119 yards and two scores in the win over WVU, and he caught a 73-yard touchdown pass versus Duke. Neal has 421 rushing yards, while Hinshaw Jr. has 259 yards.
Lawrence Arnold and Luke Grimm have been the primary pass catchers early, with the latter leading the team in receptions (25) and receiving yards (281).
Oklahoma Sooners
Man oh man, it got dark in Dallas.
Oklahoma jumped out to a 3-0 start but things have gotten really ugly since the beginning of Big 12 play. After a dominant road win over longtime foe Nebraska, OU was outplayed by Adrian Martinez and Kansas State in their conference opener. Things got worse when they took a trip to Fort Worth, and were spanked by TCU by 29 points. With Oklahoma reeling, they returned to the Lone Star state last weekend and hit a new all-time low as a program.
In Week 6, Oklahoma was shutout by Texas at the State Fair, 49-0, dropping their third straight Big 12 game to open conference play.
Oklahoma scores 37.2 points per game, while allowing 25.2 points per game.
How do you follow that up? The Sooners come into this one with all of the motivation to take some of the aura away from the Jayhawks, and turn the season around with what would be there most quality win at this point.
Dillon Gabriel was knocked out of the TCU game, and with his status in the air Brent Venable may have to lean elsewhere again at the position. The Sooners took an unorthodox approach offensively, and failed to put any points on the board last week. There’s optimism that Gabriel may be available, and that will be huge.
Gabriel was starring with 1,215 passing yards with eleven touchdowns to no interceptions.
Eric Gray has got the bulk of the work early for the Sooners, and he’s made the most of his opportunities. Gray has eclipsed the 100-yard mark three times this season, and he leads OU with 514 rushing yards. Freshman back Jovantae Barnes joins him, and he rushed for a career-high 100 yards in the thumping from TCU.
Marvin Mims looks like the next NFL wideout out of OU. The junior receiver had a career day in the win over Kent State, catching seven passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns. He’s going to have to make some noise if the Sooners wants to have a chance this weekend. He leads Oklahoma with 22 catches for 438 receiving yards and three scores.

Woo wee, as a Texas fan I wish Kansas was undefeated coming into this one so it’d be Oklahoma in a really awkward position. OU’s season being on the line in October versus a one-loss Kansas team is more than satisfying, it’s ironic, borderline hilarious, a testament to the excellent job Leipold’s done at KU.
Again, Oklahoma hit new lows last week as a program, and things somehow can get worse with a loss at home to Kansas here. If Gabriel is available, it’d be a big swing in the Sooners favor, and it may just be enough to stop the bleeding here. If he’s unavailable, and it’s Jason Bean versus whoever Brent Venables throws behind center, spot Kansas the points in hopes of more misery for Boomer Sooner.
