Jayhawks vs. Sun Devils Gameday
On Saturday, Kansas and Arizona State head across the Atlantic for a Week 3 Big 12 matchup at Wembley Stadium in London. Kickoff is set for noon ET on FS1.
Both teams arrive at 1-1 and looking for a response. Kansas opened by crushing LIU 51-6 before dropping the Border Showdown 38-21 against No. 23 Missouri.
Kansas and Arizona State both crossed an ocean after losing, so at least the sightseeing should improve the week.
Arizona State followed a similar path. The Sun Devils destroyed Morgan State 70-7 before traveling to Texas A&M and losing 48-20, although that final score tells only part of the story.
Now everybody gets Wembley.
This is the inaugural Union Jack Classic and the first college football game ever played at the famous stadium. Kansas is officially the home team, although expecting a traditional Lawrence crowd advantage in London would require some imagination.
The teams have met once before. Arizona State escaped with a 35-31 victory in Tempe in 2024.

Kansas Jayhawks vs. Arizona State Sun Devils Odds & Last 5
Arizona State opened as a 5.5-point favorite, with the Sun Devils around -206 on the moneyline and Kansas returning approximately +171. The opening spread puts Kansas in the unusual position of being a home underdog about 4,500 miles from home.
Try explaining that one to the Premier League crowd.
Kansas was tied 14-14 with Missouri at halftime before the Tigers scored two quick third-quarter touchdowns. The Jayhawks answered with an 83-yard touchdown drive but couldn’t get any closer, finishing with only 255 total yards.
Arizona State’s 48-20 loss was much stranger.
The Sun Devils actually outgained Texas A&M 369-255 and held the Aggies to 14 first downs. Four Arizona State turnovers became 24 Texas A&M points, including two fourth-quarter pick-sixes that turned a competitive game into a blowout.
So both teams are 1-1, but they took very different routes to their Week 2 losses. Wembley now gets a Big 12 game with a little more urgency than the usual international exhibition.
Sun Devils Stats
Arizona State has scored 90 points through two games, although 70 came against Morgan State. The Sun Devils still have plenty of legitimate offensive firepower behind quarterback Cutter Boley.
Boley has thrown for 641 yards and eight touchdowns.
His Arizona State debut was ridiculous: 387 yards and six touchdown passes while completing 21 of 27 attempts. Texas A&M provided a much harsher welcome, but Boley still threw for 254 yards and two scores.
Boley has eight touchdown passes in two games, so Kansas probably shouldn’t expect much nil-nil football at Wembley.
Reed Harris has quickly become his favorite target.
Harris followed 137 receiving yards and two touchdowns against Morgan State with nine catches for 189 yards and two more scores at Texas A&M. He enters London with 326 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
The defense has been better than the 55 points allowed suggests.
Arizona State has surrendered only 443 total yards through two games. Texas A&M managed just 255, but the Sun Devils repeatedly put their defense in impossible situations with four turnovers. Harry Hassmann is currently expected to miss Saturday, while Omarion Miller is listed as probable. Zyrus Fiaseu remains sidelined with a knee injury.
Jayhawks Stats
Kansas has scored 72 points through two games, but the offense came back to earth against Missouri. After hanging 51 on LIU, the Jayhawks managed 255 yards and 21 points in the Border Showdown.
Isaiah Marshall remains the key piece. Marshall has completed 27 of 49 passes for 414 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. Both picks came against Missouri, where he finished with 168 passing yards and two touchdowns.
The running game also struggled.
Kansas managed only 81 rushing yards against Missouri after finding considerably more room against LIU. Yasin Willis leads the Jayhawks with 90 yards and two touchdowns through the first two games.
Nik McMillan has emerged as the top receiving option.
He leads Kansas with 182 receiving yards, including a touchdown against Missouri. The Jayhawks need more sustained offense around Marshall after converting only three third downs and being outgained by more than 200 yards last week.
There are also injury questions. Backup quarterback Cole Ballard is doubtful with a shoulder injury, while Cam Pickett, Bam Crouch and Carson Bruhn are among the players listed as questionable.

Jayhawks vs. Sun Devils QB Matchup
Cutter Boley has produced the louder start. The Kentucky transfer has completed 42 of 61 passes for 641 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions through his first two games with Arizona State. Both interceptions came at a terrible time.
Boley’s two fourth-quarter pick-sixes at Texas A&M were an extremely efficient way to wreck a respectable afternoon.
Arizona State trailed only 31-20 early in the fourth before the turnovers turned the game sideways. Boley had otherwise moved the offense, throwing for 254 yards and two touchdowns against a ranked SEC opponent.
Isaiah Marshall has been less explosive but plenty capable.
The Kansas starter has thrown for 414 yards and four touchdowns through two games. He also threw two interceptions against Missouri after playing turnover-free football in the opener.
Saturday requires a cleaner version.
Kansas can’t afford to give Boley and Harris extra possessions, especially after Arizona State showed how quickly its passing game can create explosive plays. Marshall doesn’t need to match Boley stat for stat, but keeping the Jayhawks on schedule would make those 5.5 points considerably more interesting.
Jayhawks vs. Sun Devils bottom line: Arizona State owns the bigger passing numbers, but Kansas getting 5.5 at its “home” game in London feels appropriately English: defend your end, counter when available and try not to lose by a goal.

Here is my Jayhawks Sun Devils free pick: Kansas +5.5 is my play at Wembley. Arizona State has the more explosive passing numbers, but five-and-a-half points feels useful in a neutral-site game between two 1-1 teams coming off ugly losses.
Kansas was outgained 469-255 by Missouri, so I’m not pretending that 38-21 loss was secretly beautiful. Still, Isaiah Marshall has four touchdown passes, and the Jayhawks can challenge an Arizona State defense coming off a bizarre box score at Texas A&M.
The Aggies scored 48 despite gaining only 255 yards.
Arizona State’s four turnovers turned into 24 Texas A&M points, making that final score considerably uglier than the down-to-down football.
Cutter Boley is dangerous. He’s thrown for 641 yards and eight touchdowns, with Reed Harris already at 326 receiving yards and four scores. Kansas doesn’t need to shut that down. The Jayhawks need Marshall to avoid the two interceptions that hurt them against Missouri and make Arizona State earn its points.
At Wembley, maybe they can borrow the soccer strategy: defend, counter and hope nobody starts asking why there aren’t any nil-nils on the scoreboard.
This is also KU’s designated home game, so neither side owns a normal home-field edge.
I want the points in a competitive Big 12 game.
