This will be the third time that James Madison has played against North Carolina and the Tar Heels are yet to be beaten by the Dukes. UNC is 1-1 after dropping it’s season opener to Georgia and then beating Illinois last week.
Mitch Trubisky, the Tar Heels junior quarterback tossed the ball for a total of 265 yards and two touchdowns last week at Illinois, leading the Tar Heels to a 48-23 win.
On the other side of the field, the James Madison Dukes have dominated their first two opponents, winning the combined games against Morehead State and Central Connecticut State by a score of 136-28.
North Carolina Tar Heels
The big arm of Trubisky led North Carolina to victory last week at the University of Illinois. Although he was sacked twice, the offensive line played well against a defensive line that dominated Murray State in the season opener.
If the Tar Heels want to keep winning though, Elijah Hood is going to have start being more productive. The 88 yards he ran for against Illinois will not be enough as the season continues.
The Tar Heels secondary has looked strong in both games so far and should creates problems for the Duke’s passing game.
Defensively, the Huskies thrive with a good secondary, led by CB Shawun Lurry and safety Brandon Mayes. Still, the Huskies only had a league-average defense in the MAC in 2015, so there could be some soft spots for the Cowboys to expose.
Also, expect Northern Illinois’s special teams units to shine, thanks to all-MAC kicker Christian Hagan and electric KR/PR Argeros Turner.
James Madison Dukes
James Madison had 16 returning starters, seven on offense and nine on defense for first year head coach Mike Houston. It’s no secret that the Dukes will attempt to pound the ball on the ground.
As long as they are able to put points on the board and are not forced to start throwing the ball due to falling to far behind, they could start wearing down the UNC defense by late in the third quarter.

Both of these offenses have balance, but Elijah Hood is due for a breakout game.
James Madison has looked good this year, but the will be the first real test for the Duke’s defense
Look for Ryan Switzer of the Tar Heels to return a punt to the house for a touchdown. He is only one away from tying the NCAA record and the Dukes could be his victim.
Free Week 3 NCAA Football Prediction
This game will be closer than a lot of fans are expecting. Keep your eyes out for return man Brandon Ravanel.
He is a serious threat for James Madison and if they are going to pull an upset, the special teams could be a key ingredient.

This game will be close going into the third quarter, but Elijah Hood should be able to get it going to help the Tar Heels build a lead and chip away at the clock.
The Dukes want to be a force running the ball but will fall behind a couple scores and be forced to pass.
They haven’t faced a secondary like the one North Carolina brings to the field and it could lead to a couple key turnovers for James Madison.
