Hawkeyes vs. Huskies Gameday
The No. 20 Iowa Hawkeyes head to Seattle for a Friday night Big Ten matchup with the Washington Huskies at Husky Stadium.
Kickoff is set for 9:00 PM ET, with the game listed for FOX or FS1. Kirk Ferentz’s Hawkeyes enter 4-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play after suffering their first loss of the season.
Iowa fell 31-14 at home to No. 5 Ohio State after opening with four straight victories. That run included a 20-19 road win over Michigan, giving the Hawkeyes a 1-0 road record heading west. Washington enters 3-2 overall and 0-2 in the Big Ten under Jedd Fisch after consecutive losses to Minnesota and USC.
Iowa brings the ranking to Seattle, while Washington brings a pretty urgent need to stop the bleeding.
The Huskies led USC 21-10 before going scoreless the rest of the way in a 25-21 loss.
Iowa won the most recent meeting 40-16 in Iowa City in 2024. Friday will be Iowa’s first trip to Seattle since a 17-7 victory in 1963.
It’s Week 6, Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Washington Huskies, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Washington Huskies Odds & Last 5
Washington opened as a 3.5-point home favorite with a -157 moneyline, while Iowa was +132.
The opening total is only 41.5 points, so nobody is confusing this matchup with a Big 12 reunion. Iowa’s first five games have produced four wins, including shutouts of Northern Illinois and Northern Iowa.
The Hawkeyes followed their dramatic win at Michigan with the 31-14 loss to Ohio State. Washington opened 3-0 before dropping its first two conference games. The Huskies were competitive in both losses but couldn’t finish either one.

Huskies Stats
Washington has scored 133 points through five games, with the passing game carrying most of the offensive load.
Demond Williams Jr. has completed 110 of 163 passes for 1,327 yards, 8 TD’s and 3 interceptions. Dezmen Roebuck has emerged as his busiest target with 35 catches through five games.
Brian Bonner Jr. has provided much-needed production on the ground and ran for 89 yards against USC. The bigger problem has been keeping Williams clean when opponents can tee off on obvious passing downs. USC got to him five times last week, and that’s not a habit Washington wants to bring into this matchup.
The defense has given the Huskies a chance despite their 0-2 conference start.
Washington held USC’s offense to 18 points last week, but mistakes on offense helped turn an 11-point second-half lead into another loss. That’s a particularly expensive way to learn that finishing games is generally recommended.
Hawkeyes Stats
Iowa’s identity remains about as subtle as a Kirk Ferentz depth chart: run the football, defend and don’t give away possessions.
The Hawkeyes are averaging 180 rushing yards per game behind a deep backfield. Kamari Moulton leads Iowa with 311 yards, while four different Hawkeyes have already produced a 100-yard rushing game.
Defensively, Iowa is allowing just 12 points and 289 yards per game. The Hawkeyes have already posted two shutouts and held three opponents to 255 yards or fewer. Cam Buffington leads the defense with 44 tackles through five games.
Iowa’s defense has spent most Saturdays making opposing offenses look like they forgot part of the playbook.
Ohio State finally broke through for 31 points, but Iowa still enters Seattle with an impressive defensive body of work.
Offensively, Tony Diaz leads the receiving corps with 25 catches for 306 yards and a TD. Iowa doesn’t need its passing game to carry the offense when the running game and defense are controlling the night.
Hawkeyes vs. Huskies QB Matchup
Williams has started all five games for Washington and remains the more explosive QB in this matchup.
He has thrown for 1,327 yards, 8 TD’s and 3 interceptions while completing better than 67% of his passes. Williams can also create with his legs, although USC limited that part of his game while generating consistent pressure.
Hank Brown has started all five games for Iowa, throwing for 832 yards, 5 TD’s and 1 interception. His first pick of the season came against Ohio State after four turnover-free starts. Brown’s job in this offense is generally straightforward: stay on schedule and don’t make Ferentz start aging in dog years on the sideline.

“ Anybody can post a prediction. CappersPicks backs up its sports picks with opinionated matchup analysis, experienced handicappers & documented betting performance. Pad that bankroll one day at a time! ”
Williams brings the greater big-play threat, but Iowa’s defense presents a much different problem than most Washington has faced.
Brown doesn’t have to match Williams throw for throw. If Iowa establishes its running game, he can operate off manageable downs and let the Hawkeyes dictate how often he needs to challenge Washington vertically.
That’s a fascinating contrast for anyone doing a little college football gambling on Friday night. Williams can change the game with one play, while Iowa would happily turn the entire thing into a four-quarter test of patience. Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Washington Huskies bottom line: Washington owns the more dynamic QB, but Iowa has the defense and running game to make every possession feel expensive.
Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Washington Huskies Football Betting Trends

- The Huskies have a 27-3 straight-up record as favorites in their last 30 games.
- Additionally, Washington is 10-2 straight-up after a loss in their last 12 games.

Hawkeyes Huskies Free Pick: Under 41.5
Here is my Hawkeyes Huskies free pick: Under 41.5.
Yes, that’s a low total, but Iowa is perfectly comfortable playing a game where every possession feels like somebody misplaced the offense. Washington has more explosiveness, but the Huskies don’t need much encouragement to get dragged into a slower game against this opponent.
The Hawkeyes are 4-0 ATS when the total is 42 or lower. That trend fits what Iowa wants to do anyway: shorten the game, protect field position and force Washington to repeatedly drive the field. Long drives are great for an Under because even successful ones chew up the one thing we can’t get back, the clock.
With Iowa involved, 17-13 isn’t an ugly score; it’s practically a mission statement.
Washington being favored actually helps my preferred script.
If the Huskies lead, Iowa isn’t suddenly turning Hank Brown loose for 45 passes. If Iowa leads, Ferentz will happily squeeze the life out of the clock and dare Washington to manufacture possessions.
That’s why I’m willing to live with 41.5 instead of complaining that the number looks small. I don’t need offensive incompetence for four quarters, just enough long possessions, punts and stalled drives to keep the scoring under control. And if we’re waiting for Iowa to voluntarily speed things up, we may want to pack a lunch.
Give me Under 41.5.
