This week nine matchup will see the Northwestern Wildcats hosting the Iowa Hawkeyes. Northwestern is coming off a game where they got crushed by Ohio State, while Iowa barely managed to beat Purdue.
The Wildcats have beaten Iowa the last three seasons in a row. Last year the score in this game was 14-10.
Iowa Hawkeyes
Iowa comes into this game with a record of 2-2 in the Big Ten. Their two conference losses came by a total of 12 points, so they could really be 7-0 right now. The most recent win over Purdue was an ugly one, and they won 26-20, also failing to cover the spread.

Their offense this year has been overall poor and they just cannot seem to find the end-zone enough. Overall, they average 25 points per game, but most of this scoring came against their non-conference opponents.
Against the Big Ten is where we see how anemic the offense can be. In four conference games, they have scored an average of 17.8 points per game. This even includes a 30-0 win over Rutgers, one of the worst teams in all of college football.
If there was an area of this offense to praise, it would have to be the passing attack. They are 48th in the country, throwing for 256.6 yards per game. Their run game only picks up an average of 149 yards per game, so there is nothing special about that.
As for defense, this team is very good. They allow just 11.6 points per game, the 5th best in the country. Furthermore, they allow 275.6 total yards per game, 183 passing yards per game and 92.6 rushing yards per game.
This defense should have no trouble slowing down an offense that is worst than theirs.
Northwestern Wildcats
This is it for Northwestern. They cannot lose another game if they want their season to extend to December and play in a bowl game. In their last game, they were routed 52-3 by Ohio State, so things are not looking good.

The offense has done absolutely nothing this season. They average 12.5 points per game. This is ranked 128th in the country and for comparison, it is only 1.4 points more than Rutgers. If you just look at Big Ten games, they average 9.5 points per game.
Besides a couple games where they were blown out, their defense has not played that bad. They allow an average of 25 points per game, which ranks 54th in the country. If you take out the loss to Ohio State where they were clearly over-matched, their average points allowed per game is 19.8.
The strongest area of their defense is in stopping the pass. They allow 180.2 yards per game through the air, which is 16th best in the country. Knowing that Iowa will look to pass the ball more often than not should help the Wildcats gameplan for this game.
If Northwestern can slow down Nathan Stanley, they will have a great chance to keep this game within reach.
