The Indiana Hoosiers will travel to Lincoln to face the Nebraska Cornhuskers from Memorial Stadium this Saturday night on the Big Ten network. Nebraska opens as three-point favorites here at home, with the total opening at 61.5.
HISTORY: This will mark the third time these two Red schools will cross paths since the Huskers joined the Big Ten. Indiana leads the all-time series 10-8-3 after winning the 2019 meeting, 38-31.
Indiana Hoosiers
Indiana opened the 2022 season with a home victories over Big Ten rival Illinois and fellow state, Idaho. The Hoosiers escaped the upset by defeating Western Kentucky in overtime in Week 3 behind the arm of Connor Bazelak. IU traveled for the first time last Saturday, and suffered their first blemish.
Last weekend, Indiana lost to Cincinnati, 45-24, dropping to 1-3 against the spread this season.
Connor Bazelak has come over from Mizzou and adapted to the Air Raid scheme quickly. The junior quarterback threw for 330 yards in the season opening win over Illinois, and then topped that with a career-high 364 yards in the win over Western Kentucky. Bazelak threw a whopping 66 passes in the road loss to Cinci, and his ability to attack through the air will make them a hot underdog pick this weekend.
Bazelak has thrown for 1,171 passing yards with seven touchdowns to four interceptions in his first four games as a Hoosier.
The transfer portal has also bolstered the backfield with Shaun Shivers (Auburn) and Josh Henderson (UNC). Shivers strugged in the opener, but he’s been pretty solid in the lead role since, and he gained 101 yards on 24 touches in the loss to Cinci. Shivers scored rushing and receiving touchdowns, while Henderson caught a touchdown pass, scoring in his third straight game. Shivers lead IU with 320 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Cam Camper has been a force at wideout early, leading the Hoosiers in receptions (33) and receiving yards (418). The junior receiver was huge in Indiana’s two toughest games, catching 11 passes for 156 yards in the opener versus llinois, then recording a 10-catch, 126-yard performance against Cinci last weekend. D.J. Matthews Jr. ranks second on the team with 17 catches for 198 yards.
Indiana has struggled to contain the run game thus far, allowing a pair of 130-yard performances, and how well they contain Anthony Grant will go a long way here in Lincoln.
Nebraska Cornhuskers
After enduring one of the most painful seasons in school history, marred with close losses and confusion, the Cornhuskers jumped out to an 1-2 start, and decided they’d seen enough. Even without his buyout price set to drop October 1st, Nebraska said goodbye to Scott Frost, ending a very underwhelming reign at his alma mater. They opened the post-Frost era with a spanking from a familiar foe.
Last time out, Nebraska (+11) lost to former Big 12 rival Oklahoma at home, 49-14, failing to make the books pay in one of the biggest public bets of all-time.
Casey Thompson couldn’t replicate his 2021 magic against Oklahoma for the Huskers, and with the former Longhorn QB failing to finish the game, it raises questions of who will start this weekend. Thompson has been serviceable despite the toxic situation he walked into. If he can’t go, FSU transfer Chubby Purdy may be called upon.
Thompson is up to 995 passing yards with five passing touchdowns to three interceptions, and four rushing scores through the first four games.
Anthony Grant is Nebraska’s biggest threat and difference maker on the offensive side of the ball. Grant was phenomenal through the first three weeks, surpassing 100 yards in each outing, and truly displaying home run ability. Grant leads the Big 12 in rushing with 464 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
The transfer portal retooled Nebraska’s receiving core with three solid pass catchers. Trey Palmer has come over from LSU and led the team in receptions each time out, totaling team leads of 28 receptions and 323 receiving yards. Marcus Washington’s rapport with Thompson from Texas was on display against Georgia Southern, catching six passes for a career-best 123 yards.
The Blackshirts have got to find their mojo defensive or the 2022 season will continue to fall apart.

Free Week 5 NCAA Football Final Analysis:
The bye week may have did wonder for a Nebraska team that needs to stop the bleeding. There’s a lot of hope for this fallen program, and what they might have this weekend is the perfect storm. The Huskers have been able to cleanse to a degree and get away from the Scott Frost era, and they’ll face an Indiana team who hasn’t been able to stop anyone this season.
Nebraska will need to get back to their roots of the ground game, and lean on that heavy here. Anthony Grant is a stud, and if he can produce and keep IU’s aerial attack on the sidelines, the Cornhuskers will have a chance to earn their first FBS win of the 2022 season.
Take Nebraska’s spread this weekend, as they look to turn the page on a forgettable era.
