It’s a showdown between two undefeated teams on a light slate of games on Friday night at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay Florida.
Lovie Smith and the Illinois Fighting Illini make the trip south to take on Charlie Strong and the South Florida Bulls.
This is the first meeting ever between the two teams. One thing to watch is this game could be moved to Illinois because of the Hurricane but that is a long shot.
Illinois Fighting Illini
The Illinois Fighting Illini coming into this game looking to move to 3-0, but that doesn’t really say much about their team because they haven’t really been tested much this season.
They played Western Kentucky and Ball State in their first two games, and neither of those teams are really expected to do much this year.
The most impressive part of those two games was how well the defense played. They are young but have only given up 28 points total in the first two games.
But this South Florida Bulls team is going to really test them. They are a team that can put up points, and in a hurry and they are going to have to step up big.
On the offensive side of the ball the Fighting Illini have left a lot to be desired. Chayce Crouch the starting quarterback has only thrown for 252 yards and one touchdown through tow games.
He has also added on two interceptions to that total. If the Illini want to pull the upset in this game he is going to need to be a lot better, and the offense as a whole is going to have to be more explosive.
They can’t expect to be average in this game and somehow pull off the upset.
South Florida Bulls
On the other side of this match up is the South Florida Bulls who come into this game with a 2-0 record and ranked 21st in the country.
They were tested early by San Jose State in their first game before pulling away, but other then that they haven’t been tested really yet, and hope not to be in this game.
Quarterback Quinton Flowers can really light it up through the air, but he hasn’t really had to do that so far this year. In his first two games Flowers has thrown for almost 400 yards and four touchdowns and one interception.
His completion percentage has been low, but most people around the team don’t seem to concerned with it, and feel it will improve.
To win this game the bulls just need to play their game. They are the better team and as long as the offense performs they should have no issue winning this game.
