The Hawaii’i Rainbow Warriors make a long plane ride to visit the UMass Minutemen in Week 1 of the College Football season. Hawaii will be making the trip to Amherst which will be over 5,000 miles from campus.

The Minutemen will be ready. UMass has a bad taste in their mouths from last years 46-40 loss on the final game of the 2016 season.
The loss put Hawaii in the Hawaii bowl
Hawaii Rainbow Warriors
The Rainbow Warriors had a good season last year. Hawaii went 7-7 last season, and 4-4 in the Mountain West conference finishing second behind San Diego State in conference play.
First year head coach Nick Rolovich Jr. should be pleased with what he did in 2016. After a tough 1-3 start to the season, Rolovich got the Rainbow Warriors to a 52-35 Hawaii Bowl win over Middle Tennessee State.

With such a high ceiling this year, Hawaii’s Dru Brown will start at QB for the questionable Hawaii offense.
The offense ranked eighth in the Mountian West last year, but are returning eight starters. The Hawaii defense should be better this year on the defensive line, but need to improve. The defense allowed over 37 points per game last year.
UMass Minutemen
The Minutemen have no way to go but up. Looking to improve on last season’s disappointing record of 2-10; Head Coach Mark Whipple will have a lot of concerns this year.
One concern could be who his starting quarterback is this season.
UMass will start Junior Ross Comis in week 1. Comis is coming back from a back injury and has looked good in camp.
Andrew Ford took over after Comis got hurt, and did well. He passed for 2,665 yards and 26 touchdowns on 60.5% completion percentage.
Looks like a quarterback Coach Whipple could be splitting time between the two this season.

With the talent they have at quarterback, the Minutemen passing attack should be the bright spot in 2017.
With Penn State transfer, tight end Adam Breneman getting third team preseason honors, and the return of wide receiver Andy Isabella, UMass should be better than last years passing attack.
They averaged 256 yards passing per game last season.

Free Week 1 NCAA Football Pick
In the first game of the year, I expect the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors to feel a bit different playing over 5,000 miles away at Amherst.
This year the Minutemen have luxury of staying home, rather than making the trip they made to Hawaii, which should play to the advantage of the Minutemen. Take UMass in this matchup.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: OVER 62.5
This game should come loaded with offense. Last year, the Rainbow Warriors got the win at home, 46-40.
This season both teams have a ton of questions to answer on defense. UMass returns talent to the passing attack and the Hawaii offense returns with more experience.
With two of the lower ranked defenses in the country, take the over in this game. I expect points to be scored, but not as many as last year.
Hawaii still has a lot to prove on offense, but will prove enough to cover the over.
