The defense is basically average at best. They did have some trouble stopping the run against the Aggies. New Mexico State rushed for 209 yards, but this was on 54 carries. At the very least, they held them to 3.9 yards per carry.
Appalachian State Mountaineers
App State remained perfect with a blow out win over the Jags from South Alabama. They won this game 30-3, showing that their defense can be dominant.
The offense for this Mountaineers squad is among the best in terms of points scored. They score an average of 41 points per game, ranking 9th in the country.
They also have a very good run game, averaging 244.1 yards per game on the ground. Their passing game is not the best, but it is so much better than Georgia Southern’s, so they have the edge in this area as well.

The defense for this App State team is starting to play lights out over the past few weeks. Against South Alabama, they allowed a total of 139 yards. They are allowing 19 points per game this season, which is 18th in the country.
Over their last three games alone, they have allowed a total of 17 points. Therefore, they allow 13.5 points per game against Sun Belt opponents.
The Mountaineers basically do not have to worry at all about the Eagles’ passing game because they rarely pass. Even if they do, App State ranks 24th in the country in passing defense.
