Kickoff is set for 6:30 PM PT and 9:30 PM ET at Gesa Field on USA Sports.
Fresno State has won three straight since opening the season with a loss at USC. Washington State is trying to rebound after dropping a 34-24 decision to Arizona last Saturday.
The new Pac-12 arrives in Pullman, where apparently nobody bothered scheduling an easy conference opener.
Washington State leads the all-time series 4-2. The Cougars won the most recent meeting 25-17 at Fresno State in 2024, two years after the Bulldogs beat WSU 29-6 in the LA Bowl.

Here is my Bulldogs Cougars free pick: I’m taking Fresno State +2.5. Washington State gets to wear the favorite tag at home, but this number is small enough that I’m much more interested in grabbing the points with a Fresno State team that doesn’t need anything unusual to cash the ticket.
This should be a possession game, and that’s where the number matters. Fresno State has done a better job avoiding the kind of mistakes that hand an opponent cheap points, while Washington State has been more vulnerable to those momentum swings.
In a game lined this tightly, one short field can decide who spends the fourth quarter chasing whom.
Washington State gets home field. I’m getting +2.5 in a game that looks built to make every possession expensive.
I also don’t need Fresno State to control the night. Get me to the fourth quarter within one score and I’ve got the underdog plus nearly a field goal in my pocket. Washington State can have the crowd, the blue blood pressure of Pullman and whatever else comes with being home. It still has to create separation.
That’s my betting argument: this number gives Fresno State room in a matchup where I don’t see enough between the teams to comfortably lay points.
If it turns into the late-possession fight I expect, I’d rather be holding +2.5 than asking Wazzu to win by margin.
Give me Fresno State +2.5.
