The Fresno State Bulldogs will travel to Hartford and take on the Connecticut Huskies from Rentschler Field this Saturday on CBSS. Fresno State will open as the 24-point favorites on the road here, with the total opening at 50.5.
Fresno State Bulldogs
Fresno State kicked their season off with a 28-point win over in-state foe Cal Poly, and they looked pretty good offensively. A pair of defeats from the PAC-12 sent them into their extended bye week. Fresno nearly defeated a talented Oregon State team at home, but then hit a wall when they ran into their in-state powers.
Last time out, Fresno State loss to USC in Los Angeles, 45-17, dropping to 0-3 against the spread thus far.
Not many quarterbacks in the country bring more experience to the table then Jake Haener. The two-year starter was phenomenal in Jefff Tedford’s Air Raid last season, even breaking a few of Derek Carr’s school records. He’s been solid through the first three contests, passing for 854 yards with four touchdowns to one interceptions.
Jordan Mims is the lead back for the Bulldogs. The fifth-year senior is very versatile, and fits the James White mold. Mims gained 98 yards and scored three total touchdowns (2 rush, 1 rec) in the win over Cal Poly, then followed it up with a 122-yard, two-score performance against Oregon State. Mims also gained 114 rushing yards in the loss to Southern Cal.
Haener has the blessing of having multiple, reliable pass catchers again this season. Cal transfer Nikko Remigio has come in and found chemistry wiith Haener early, gaining 100 yards in each of the first two games this season.
Jalen Moreno-Cooper returned for his senior season, and he’s tied for the team lead with Remigio in catches (23) through the first three games. Josh Kelly. Erik Brooks, and Zane Pope round out a deep wideout room for Fresno.
UConn Huskies
It’s been another rough season for the Connecticut Huskies program. The Huskies did manage to cover in their Week 0 loss to Utah State and in the win over in-state Central Connecticut State, but it’s been rocky since. A home loss to former Big East rival Syracuse was followed by a shutout defeat to Michigan.
Last weekend, UConn lost to N.C. State in Raleigh, 41-10, covering the generous 38-point spread with a late touchdown.
Zion Turner has found life in Hartford to be a bit troubling. The Huskies have failed to provide a comfortable situation for the redshirt freshman, leading to a rough beginning to his career. Turner’s numbers aren’t pretty through five games, and he’s thrown for 429 passing yards with four touchdowns to three interceptions.
Nathan Carter has been a pleasant surprise for a program looking to finally turn the page. The sophomore back ran for a career-high 190 yards in the season opener, then followed it up with a 123-yard performance in the win over Central.
Aaron Turner has been the number one guy early, leading UConn with an underwhelming 15 catches and 169 receiving yards.

It’s probably been ages since Fresno has been favored like this. Maybe during the Derek Carr/Davante Adams era, but the Bulldogs do indeed come into this one with tall, yet possible task. We’d like to prey on the program that is UConn football here. The Huskies will be overmatched with Bulldogs aerial attack early, and this one should get dark. Fresno should lay the points in blowout form here.
