It’s the second week of the college football season and both the Fordham Rams and the Ball State Cardinals are still looking for their first win.
The Rams fell 26-23 last week against the Central Connecticut Blue Devils while the Cardinals came up short 34-24 against the Indiana Hoosiers.
This week’s showdown will take place at Scheumann Stadium in Muncie, Indiana at 2:00 Saturday afternoon.
Fordham Rams
The Fordham Rams went into the locker room at halftime down 15-6 to Central Connecticut and ended up dropping the season opener 26-23.
The Rams were able to pick up 20 first downs in the game, moving the chains just three of 13 opportunities on third down.
Fordham picked up a total of 384 yards with 194 of them coming through the air. The Rams were successful moving the ball on the ground, picking up an average of five yards per carry. The offense did turn the ball over twice with both a fumble and an interception.

Quarterback Tim DeMorat completed 17 of 27 passing attempts, throwing for 194 yards and three touchdowns.
Zach Davis led the ground attack with 19 carries for 109 yards. Hamze El-Zayat was leading receiver for the Rams, bringing in eight receptions for 70 yards while finding the endzone on two separate occasions.
On the defensive side of the ball, Fordham gave up a total of 367 yards. While they looked solid against the pass, only giving up 113 yards, they struggled against the run. The Blue Devils ran for 254 yards on 37 attempts.
If Fordham isn’t able to figure out how to stop the run against Ball State, things could get ugly quickly on Saturday in Muncie.
Ball State Cardinals
The Ball State Cardinals opened up the season against the Indiana Hoosiers from the Big 10 conference. While IU isn’t exactly the strongest team in their conference, they looked to be heavy favorites on paper before the ball was kicked off, last week.
Ball State went into the locker room down 16-10 at the half and never managed to get on top. However, the numbers were impressive for the Cardinals.
Ball State had 26 first downs in the contest, converting on seven of 16 on third down. They moved the ball for a total of 398 yards against Indiana, throwing for 298 and running for 100 yards.

What might have been the most impressive was the balance the offense operated in while playing from behind. The Cardinals passed the ball 41 times while running for 40.
The defense had their hands full against the stronger IU program. Ball State gave up a total of 474 yards with 326 coming through the passing game. When the Hoosiers did run the Ball, the Cardinals defense gave up an average of 4.5 yards per carry. No, I don’t see this happening again against the Rams.
Linebacker Jacob White and safeties Bryce Cosby and Roy Wilborn each had nine tackles in the game. Both Antonio Phillips and Amechi Uzodinma III had an interception.
The Cardinals quarterback, Drew Plitt, was able to connect on 26 of 41 passing attempts, throwing for 298 yards and a pair of touchdowns with one pick.
Caleb Huntley led the rushing attack with 22 carries for 81 yards and a score of his own.

Free Week 2 NCAA Football Pick
I see this as an easy win for Ball State Saturday afternoon.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Ball State -28
Forham’s defense struggled to stop the run against Central Connecticut and as balanced as the Cardinal offense is, they should be able to put up big numbers both running and passing.
