Seminoles vs. Cardinals Gameday
The Florida State Seminoles visit the Louisville Cardinals in Week 6 on Friday, October 9 at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium.
Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM ET on ESPN, with Mike Norvell’s Seminoles entering 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the ACC. Florida State is coming off its best defensive performance of the season, beating Virginia 38-7 after scoring the final 38 points.
The Seminoles are 3-1 at home but still searching for their first road victory.
Florida State finally looked comfortable last week; Louisville would prefer that feeling stayed in Tallahassee.
Jeff Brohm’s Cardinals are 2-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play after a 31-28 loss at NC State. Louisville is 2-1 at home, setting up an important ACC game for two teams already short on room for another conference loss. Florida State leads the series 18-6 and won the most recent meeting 16-6 in the 2023 ACC Championship Game.
That one was played in Charlotte, making Friday the first meeting between these programs in Louisville since 2021.
It’s Week 6, Florida State Seminoles vs. Louisville Cardinals, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Florida State Seminoles vs. Louisville Cardinals Odds & Last 5
Louisville opened as a 3.5-point home favorite with a -179 moneyline, while Florida State was +149.
The opening total was 59 points. Florida State has alternated between explosive and uneven offensively, but the Seminoles enter Louisville with consecutive victories.
Their 38-7 win over Virginia featured 38 unanswered points after the Cavaliers scored first. Louisville has dropped three of its last four after opening the season with a win. The Cardinals rallied from a 28-14 deficit to tie NC State before losing 31-28 on a late FG, another close one that got away.

Cardinals Stats
Louisville has scored 193 points through five games while producing 1,437 passing yards and 1,049 on the ground.
Brohm’s offense has plenty of balance, even if the scoreboard hasn’t always translated into wins. Lincoln Kienholz has thrown for 1,394 yards, 9 TD’s and only 1 interception on 139 attempts.
Keyjuan Brown has added 367 rushing yards and 3 TD’s, while Isaac Brown gives Louisville another dangerous option out of the backfield. The Cardinals piled up 485 yards at NC State, including 231 on the ground. Their defense had a much tougher afternoon, surrendering 493 yards and several explosive plays in the loss.
Louisville has also dealt with injuries across the roster, particularly on defense. Antonio Watts is out for the season, while the Cardinals have been managing additional availability concerns in the secondary.
Seminoles Stats
Florida State has scored 166 points through five games with 1,125 passing yards and 978 on the ground.
Ousmane Kromah leads the backfield with 477 rushing yards and 5 TD’s. The defense produced its most disruptive performance against Virginia.
Florida State recorded 10 sacks, held the Cavaliers to three third-down conversions and didn’t allow another point after Virginia’s opening TD.
Ten sacks will cure a lot of defensive complaints, even in Tallahassee where complaints travel fast.
Ashton Daniels supplied the fireworks on offense against Virginia, rushing for a school-record five TD’s and 136 yards. His legs give Florida State another dimension when the pocket disappears or a designed run catches the defense guessing. Samuel Singleton Jr. remains sidelined with a lower-body injury, leaving Florida State thinner in the backfield.
Kromah remains the primary rushing threat as the Seminoles head into their second road game.
Seminoles vs. Cardinals QB Matchup
Kienholz has completed 94 of 139 passes for 1,394 yards, 9 TD’s and just 1 interception.
He threw for 254 yards and 2 TD’s at NC State despite Louisville coming up three points short. Daniels has thrown for 1,111 yards with 6 TD’s and 6 interceptions.
His passing numbers only tell part of the story because his mobility forces defenses to account for another runner around the goal line. The contrast is pretty clear. Kienholz has been the steadier passer, while Daniels brings more volatility and the ability to turn a broken play into six points with his legs.

For Louisville, protecting Kienholz against a Florida State pass rush coming off a monster afternoon will be critical.
The Cardinals have enough rushing support that Brohm doesn’t need his QB wearing a cape on every third down. Daniels has the opposite challenge: keep the explosive element without handing Louisville extra possessions.
That’s where this QB matchup gets interesting for anyone doing some college football handicapping on Friday night. Florida State Seminoles vs. Louisville Cardinals bottom line: Kienholz brings efficiency, Daniels brings chaos, and protecting the football should carry plenty of weight in deciding this ACC matchup.
Florida State Seminoles vs. Louisville Cardinals Football Betting Trends
- Florida State has gone 22-8 straight-up after a win over the last 30 games.
- As underdogs, the Seminoles have covered the spread in 11 of their last 21 games.
- Also, the Seminoles have a 2-1 record against the spread in games with totals of 50 or more this season.
- Louisville has a 23-7 straight-up record in their last 30 home games.
- The Cardinals have hit the over in four of their last five games with totals of 50 or more.
- Plus, after a loss, Louisville is 18-8 straight-up over their last 26 games.
Seminoles Cardinals Free Pick: Under 59
Here is my Seminoles Cardinals free pick: Under 59. That’s a healthy number for a Friday night ACC game where Florida State’s clearest road path is making Louisville work for points instead of volunteering for a shootout.
The Seminoles can create negative plays up front, which gives them a chance to put Louisville behind schedule. That matters because the Cardinals are much more comfortable staying balanced than asking their passing game to rescue drive after drive.
At 59, I can survive some fireworks without needing both offenses to suddenly forget where the punter sits.
Florida State also has every reason to stay patient away from home. Running the football, shortening the game and avoiding unnecessary possessions makes considerably more sense than turning this into a Friday night coin flip.
That gives me multiple ways to cash this Under. Louisville controlling the game should burn clock, while a competitive Florida State effort likely means its defense and ground game are doing plenty of the work.
Could we get a couple of cheap scores and some fourth-quarter nonsense? Of course. It’s college football, where a perfectly good Under can develop a drinking problem in about 90 seconds.
But 59 gives me enough cushion to accept some stupidity along the way. I’m betting on stretches of this game being methodical rather than frantic, so give me Under 59.
