This will be the first SEC game for Tennessee this year, while Florida is 0-1 after having lost to Kentucky. Florida cannot afford an 0-2 in the SEC, so this is basically a must win game for them.
Their most recent meeting saw Florida win the game on the last play of the game, with the final score being 26-20.
Under new head coach, Dan Mullen, fans thought Florida would make a comeback and compete with Georgia for the SEC East title. Things went south quickly as the Gators lost in week two, to Kentucky for the first time in 31 years.
They will look to rebound against a Tennessee team, who is also in a rebuild of sorts.
Offensively the Gators rank 94th in the country with an average of 381.7 total yards per game.
More specifically, they are 93rd in passing yards per game with 197.3. Their rushing game ranks at 63rd with an average of 184.3 yards per game.
The Gators will need their quarterback, Felipe Franks, to be more efficient with the ball and not turn it over. He has thrown two picks this season and fumbled late in the Kentucky game to seal the win for the Wildcats.
Also, he has only completed 53% of his passes, so he has to find a way to be more accurate or the Gators will find themselves in a deep hole.
Defensively Florida has played pretty well. They rank 18th in the country in points allowed per game at 14.3. Specifically their pass defense has been solid and ranks 8th in the NCAA based on yards allowed.
After a blowout loss to West Virginia in week one, it seemed that Tennessee was back to being their old self. Since then they have been much better, even if their other two games were against weak opponents.
Starting 1-0 in conference play could end up being a big deal, especially with Georgia being a clear favorite for the SEC East title.
Tennessee has scored almost all their touchdowns on the ground so far. They have four players with over 100 yards and five players with at least one touchdown. This balanced running attack should help the Volunteers keep Florida on their toes.
Quarterback, Jarrett Guarantano has not been all that effective this year, having thrown for 494 yards, but only two touchdowns to show for. He will need to a have great game to ensure Tennessee is not a one dimensional team.
Their defense got torched by Will Grier (West Virginia) in the opening game. They have improved since then, but will be tested again by the Gators.
