This AAC game features two teams struggling to turn around poor seasons.
Uconn is on a two game losing streak after their loss to UCF. Eastern Carolina has seen the rails come off with a 5 game losing streak.
An Inefficient offense has been the major storyline for the Connecticut Huskies this year. The QB play has been up and down all season long. Bryant Sheriffs has been an inaccurate passer all year.
In 8 games he has had only 2 with a completion percentage higher than 65.
Last week against UCF he was 18-34 for 242 yards. It was also his 3rd game without a touchdown pass.
If the Huskies are going to win this game he will need to play much better than he has this season, and get this passing attack into the end zone.
Arkeel Newsome has had 3 straight strong performances for Uconn.
He’s had over 100 total yards in each game and is the focal point of any defense looking to stop Uconn’s offense. Last week he ran for 101 yards on 21 carries with a score.
He faces a Pirates D that gave up 165 yards rushing to Cincinnati last week at a 4.7 yards per carry pace. I expect him to have his 4th straight game with over 100 total yards and get both a rushing and a receiving touchdown.
Noel Thomas has had 5 straight games with over 100 receiving yards, and he should attack the ECU secondary with another big game.
The Huskies passing defense was bad last week against the Golden Knights.
They gave up 3 touchdown passes and 317 yards through the air. If the secondary plays that bad again expect the ECU receivers to beat them repeatedly.
Eastern Carolina Pirates
Philip Nelson had an okay game in the loss to Cincinnati last week.
He threw for 283 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. He also chipped in running the ball with 10 carries for 56 yards.
If he can use his scrambling ability to extend plays and pick up a few first downs on the ground, ECU should have no trouble scoring in this one.
Anthony Scott had a bounce back game against the Bearcats. He ran the ball 13 times for 70 yards.
Even though the team is on a 5 game losing streak the offense looks like it’s getting into a good rhythm, and Scott should reach 100 yards rushing this week.
Talented receiver Zay Jones was held in check by the Bearcats secondary. He did have 11 catches but for only 69 yards. This week expects him to have 10 catches and over 100 yards as he makes an impact all over the field.
During this 5 game losing streak the Pirates have given up 38 points per game. Do they end the streak today?
With the Uconn running game keeping the Huskies in close games, this one will be up to the defensive line, who I don’t think are up to the task.

Free Week 9 NCAA Football Prediction
The UConn run game will be too much, and keeps the ECU offense off of the field in key stretches of the game, however ECU covers the 7.
