Colorado State proved last week that their season opening loss to Fresno State was more about shaking off the rust than it was a showing of poor quality. The Rams bounced back with a 34-24 win over Wyoming in game two.
Boise State is the team searching for answers ahead of Friday night’s game after their 51-17 beatdown at home by the hands of BYU. The Cougars are a great team, ranked 8th in the country, but it was a no-show for Boise State.
Colorado State Rams
The biggest thing Colorado State did in their second game of he season was find some consistency at QB. With some COVID issues at the skill positions, Steve Addazio went for the more mobile Todd Centeio as the starter.
Centeio did lead the Rams in rushing the first game, but incumbent starter Patrick O’Brien came in and went 7/10 with a TD. It was O’Brien’s show in the 10 point win over Wyoming last week, and he responded by going 18/26 for 255 yards and 2 TDs.

Another thing that doomed Colorado State in their 38-17 loss at Fresno State to start the year was the fact the Bulldogs already had a game in, when the Rams were trying to debut a new system with a minimal offseason.
The Rams still have a ways to go on defense though after allowing 144 yards rushing and another 321 through the air to the Cowboys.
Boise State Broncos
Boise State failed their first big test of the season last week, falling 51-17 to BYU as just +5.5 home underdogs. The Broncos beat up on Utah State (42-13) and Air Force (49-30) to start the year but both as 2 TD favorites.
Injury concerns are starting to pile up for Boise State as well. QB Hank Bachmeier missed the showdown with Zach Wilson last week (undisclosed), and his backup Jack Sears was also forced out of the game against BYU.
The 3rd and 4th string QBs took snaps for Boise State last week, and starting RB George Holani is likely out again this week with a leg injury. Do all these ailments make CSU ripe for the upset?
Another reason to possibly lean towards the Rams is the Boise State defense that was shredded by Wilson last week with Wilson going 22/28 for 360 yards and 3 TD. That’s a Heisman candidate, but still.
