No matter the circumstances Clemson was looking like the top team in the country again this year. They are loaded with talent and experience.
Less so at Wake Forest but they are coming off a good season and have lots of experience on defense. Last year’s game was a 52-3 romp for Texas.

This one might not be as lopsided but only because things are going to be a bit more out of sync to start this weirdo season.
Clemson Tigers
It is easy to count the strengths of the Tigers. It starts with Trevor Lawrence, who is expected to be the top pick in the NFL Draft.
Travis Etienne is also probably going to be the first running back taken in next year’s draft. He decided to come back making them that much more deadly on offense.
The only weakness of the offense is at offensive line where only one starter returns. That is grasping at hairs though as they should be more than fine.
Conversely, the defense returns all four starters on the defensive line. That defense was third in the nation in points allowed last year and is reinforced by two 5 star freshman.
It is hard to find a weakness on this team but sometimes they play a little flat like last year at North Carolina, a one point win.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Wake Forest won 8 games last season but the outlook for this season is nowhere near as rosy, for a bunch of reasons.
For starters, they lost QB Jamie Newman to Georgia (then sitting out). He was an effective passer and their third leading rusher a year ago.
Sam Hartman has experience but has struggled with injuries and the offense has only three returning starters in total.
The defense will have to carry the load. The entire front seven returns so there is experience but only Carlos Basham Jr., who had 10 sacks a year ago is a playmaker. Wake Forest is going to have to try and dominate in the trenches and that is tough to do against a team like Clemson.
