Bearcats vs. Wildcats Gameday
The undefeated Cincinnati Bearcats finally leave home Saturday night for a Big 12 matchup with the Arizona Wildcats at Casino Del Sol Stadium in Tucson. Cincinnati enters 4-0 and 1-0 in conference play, while Arizona is 3-1 and 0-1.
Kickoff is set for 8:00 PM MST and 11:00 PM ET on FOX, Cincinnati’s latest start since a 2008 trip to Hawai’i.
The Bearcats opened Big 12 play with a 31-26 victory over Kansas State. Arizona has won two straight after its loss at BYU, including last week’s 34-24 victory at Washington State.
Cincinnati finally leaves town and gets an 11 PM body-clock kickoff. Welcome to road football, fellas.
This is only the second meeting between the programs.
Arizona won the first one 30-24 at Cincinnati last season, knocking off a Bearcats team that entered the game ranked No. 22.

Cincinnati Bearcats vs. Arizona Wildcats Odds & Last 5
The opening odds make Arizona a solid home favorite. The Wildcats opened -276 on the moneyline, with Cincinnati returning +225.
Arizona is laying seven points, with the opening total set at 55.5.
Cincinnati has won all four games but hasn’t exactly spent September avoiding drama.
The Bearcats followed comfortable wins over Boston College and Western Carolina by rallying from 21 points down to beat Miami (Ohio) 35-31. They trailed Kansas State 17-7 before another comeback last week.
Cincinnati ran for 271 yards against K-State.
Gi’Bran Payne and Cole Tabb both topped 120 yards, while Tabb scored three second-half TD’s as the Bearcats erased another double-digit deficit.
Arizona bounced back from its 28-17 loss at BYU with consecutive victories.
The Wildcats beat Northern Illinois 42-17 before going to Pullman and defeating Washington State 34-24 behind 297 passing yards and a strong second half.

Wildcats Stats
Arizona has built its 3-1 start around an offense averaging 32 points and more than 300 passing yards per game.
Noah Fifita obviously drives much of that production, but the Wildcats have several other pieces working around him.
Tré Spivey leads Arizona with 278 receiving yards and four TD’s. Kedrick Reescano has 161 yards and two TD’s on the ground, while the Wildcats rushed for a season-high 189 yards in the opener against Northern Arizona.
The more interesting matchup Saturday may be Arizona’s defense against Cincinnati’s running game.
The Wildcats have surrendered only 80.5 rushing yards per game. They have also generated 15 sacks through four contests, giving them the kind of front capable of making Cincinnati work considerably harder for its usual production.
Arizona hasn’t been perfect defensively.
The Wildcats carry a negative turnover margin into Saturday, and Washington State moved the football well enough to make last week’s game uncomfortable. Still, limiting opponents to 19 points per game gives Arizona some room while its offense finds its rhythm.
Bearcats Stats
Cincinnati has scored 162 points through four games and built one of the country’s most productive rushing attacks.
The Bearcats are averaging 270 yards on the ground and 6.5 yards per carry.
Gi’Bran Payne leads the team with 368 rushing yards, while Cole Tabb has become the home-run threat. Tabb is averaging more than 11 yards per carry and has scored seven total TD’s.
Cincinnati isn’t relying on one back either.
Payne, Tabb and JC French IV have all contributed heavily on the ground, giving Scott Satterfield several ways to attack a defense without changing the basic personality of his offense.
The Bearcats have also shown some serious second-half teeth.
They have outscored opponents 107-27 after halftime and have overcome deficits of at least 10 points in consecutive games for the first time since 2011. Great for the blood pressure? Probably not. Effective so far? Absolutely.
Bearcats vs. Wildcats QB Matchup
Noah Fifita remains the centerpiece of Arizona’s offense.
The veteran QB has completed 99 of 131 passes for 1,131 yards, 11 TD’s and two interceptions. His 75.6 percent completion rate has helped Arizona consistently stay ahead of the chains.
Fifita also brings a massive experience edge.
He entered this week with 84 career TD passes and more than 10,000 passing yards, giving Arizona a QB who has seen just about every defensive look college football can throw at him.
CP Is More Than Just Sports Picks!
“ Anybody can post a prediction. CappersPicks backs up its sports picks with opinionated matchup analysis, experienced handicappers & documented betting performance. Pad that bankroll one day at a time! ”
JC French IV has been extremely efficient in his first season running Cincinnati’s offense.
French has completed 70 of 94 passes for 796 yards, six TD’s and no interceptions. He has also been a meaningful part of the Bearcats’ rushing attack rather than simply handing the ball to everyone else.
The biggest difference is volume and responsibility.
Arizona asks Fifita to carry a larger portion of its offense through the air, while Cincinnati can let French work off a deep rushing attack and choose his spots. Neither QB has given his team many reasons to complain through September.
Cincinnati Bearcats vs. Arizona Wildcats bottom line: Fifita gives Arizona the more established passing threat, while French’s efficiency has fit perfectly with Cincinnati’s run-heavy offense.

Bearcats Wildcats Free Pick: Arizona Wildcats -7
Here is my Bearcats Wildcats free pick: I’m laying Arizona -7. Cincinnati is 4-0, so I’m not going to manufacture some story about the Bearcats being frauds.
I’m betting that their habit of playing from behind becomes considerably more expensive when they finally leave home.
Cincinnati has erased double-digit deficits in consecutive games. That’s impressive.
The Bearcats keep escaping trouble. Arizona -7 says I’m betting the desert eventually locks the door.
The setup matters to me here. Cincinnati spent the entire first month of the season inside its own city, and now its first trip comes with an 11 PM ET kickoff in Tucson. That’s a much different environment for a team that has needed time to get rolling lately.
Seven is enough that I need Arizona to create real separation, but I don’t need four quarters of domination. One bad Cincinnati stretch can put this game into the exact script I want, with the Bearcats chasing points instead of patiently leaning on what they do best.
Make them play uphill again Saturday night, and this time I don’t think the escape hatch stays open.
Give me Arizona -7.
