The Chippewas are poised to certainly compete this season for a MAC Championship.
This team doesn’t shy away from the big opponents either. They’ll get Oklahoma State and Virginia in non conference play, along with UNLV who proves to be a tough task.
2016 Central Michigan Chippewas Predictions: Team Strengths
MAC Success
Central Michigan has a very tough non conference schedule with 3 of the 4 games potentially losses. Games against UNLV, Virginia, and Oklahoma State prove to be tough competitions, but this a similar ordeal to last season.
The Chippewas had a tough non conference schedule that set them up for MAC play. Last year the Chippewas went 6-2 in conference play, but losses to Western Michigan and Toledo did them in for the MAC West.
They dominated the rest of the MAC and will likely be seeking some revenge this season when it comes to WMU and Toledo.
They’ve proven they can handle the rest of the MAC, but with those two games likely defying their West fate, this could be the year this team steps up.

Not Cooped Up
The Chippewas return 4th year starting QB Cooper Rush, who is arguably the best QB in the conference.
Last year, Rush tossed for 3848 yards to go along with 25 touchdowns.
He threw for over 300 yards in 8 of the teams 13 games last year and even added a 430 yard performance against Syracuse.
Rush will return all his weapons out wide, as they will be a serious threat, especially deep down field, on almost every play.
2016 Central Michigan Chippewas Predictions: Team Weaknesses
No Balance
Central Michigan’s biggest flaw last season came from their run game.
The Chippewas were a MAC worst when it came to rush yards per game, averaging 101.3 yards per game on the ground.
With Cooper Rush and his ability to throw deep down field to a talented group of receivers, the run game is going to actually be a giant key this season. Opposing defenses know that Rush can throw and with no run game they’ll play back in coverage.
If they can open a run game and keep the defense off balanced, this offense will be successful. However, if it’s anything like last year, coverage could be tough on the CMU pass game.

Nowhere to Hide
The Chippewas kind of came out of nowhere last season.
Expected to finish toward the bottom of the MAC West, CMU shared the division title, but lost out on tiebreaker rules.
Now, there is nobody going to overlook the Chippewas. Teams will take their game up a notch or two, especially with everyone knowing how good Cooper Rush is.
They’ll be a lot of pressure and eyes on this CMU team heading into this season. Expect them to have a lot of expectations to live up to.
Central Michigan Chippewas Prediction: 8-4
The non conference slate for Central Michigan isn’t friendly by any means. However, if at worst, it preps them for MAC play.
The Chippewas have plenty of talent on both sides of the ball and will once again compete for a MAC Championship.

Circle the games against Western Michigan and at Toledo. Those two losses costed them last season in terms of the tiebreaker rules.
After it’s all said and done, the Chippewas will easily secure themselves a bowl berth, with a spot in the MAC Title Game coming from the outcomes of two games against top MAC West powerhouses.
