HISTORY: Arkansas and Mississippi State have crossed paths in every season since the Hogs joined the SEC back in 1992. The Razorbacks lead the all-time series 18-13-1, but the Bulldogs have won seven of the last ten meetings.
Arkansas Razorbacks
Arkansas has jumped out to a strong 3-0 start here in 2022. The Hogs opened their season with a strong non-conference victory over Cincinnati, then began SEC play with a 14-point victory over South Carolina. After the smooth start, the Razorbacks dropped their first road game of the season to Texas A&M, and failed to live up in a big home underdog spot last week.
In Week 5, Arkansas lost to Alabama, 49-26, failing to capitalize the 17-point spread.

KJ Jefferson’s status will be make or break for Arkansas this weekend. If the star quarterback can’t go, they will be a disadvantage versus Mississippi State’s Air Raid, and it could get dark. There’s a chance he could play, and the Hogs will need it to avoid a third straight loss. If he’s unable to play, USF transfer Cade Fortin will get the call.
Raheim Sanders’ second year leap has been astounding. After gaining 499 yards last season, the sophomore back has eclipsed the 110-yard mark in each of the first three games. Sanders was really active against the Bears last weekend, rushing for a career-high 167 yards and two scores, while adding a 73-yard touchdown catch as well. He’s up to 609 yards on 5.8 yards per carry, with four rushing touchdowns for the season.
There’s been a collective effort to replace former Hog Treylon Burks’ presence at the wideout position. Toledo transfer Matt Landers leads the team in yards (261), after a seven-catch, 123-yard performance against Missouri State. Former OU wideout Jadon Haselwood has been steady alongside him, leading the Hogs with 24 receptions and gained 251 receiving yards.
Mississippi State Bulldogs
Mississippi State looks like the real deal here in Mike Leach’s third season. The Bulldogs picked up non-conference wins over rival Memphis and Arizona but they found trouble in Death Valley the following Saturday. After losing to LSU, the Bulldogs picked up a pair of big wins in Stark Vegas.
In Week 5, Mississippi State defeated Texas A&M, 42-24, improving to 3-2 ATS.
Mississippi State is scoring 38.2 points per game, while allowing 21.8 ppg.
Leach has found his guy in junior quarterback Will Rogers, and we’ve seen this previously with Kliff Kingsbury, Graham Harrell, and Anthony Gordon. Year 3 in the Air Raid means big things for the QB, and Rogers has been sharp and lived up to the hype early. He’s tossed more than four touchdowns three times already, and he’s going to give the Hogs all they can handle here.
Rogers leads the SEC with 1,715 passing yards with 19 touchdowns to three interceptions.
Dillon Johnson and Jo’quavious Marks handle the backfield work for the Bulldogs. Johnson leads the team with 302 rushing yards, and he gained a season-high 68 yards in the win over A&M. Marks scored in each of the first three games of the seasons, and he’s gained 193 yards with a team-high four touchdowns. Both backs are active in the passing game as well, with Johnson catching a team-high 25 receptions and Marks recording 15 catches.
Rogers has spread the ball out tremendously early. Rara Thomas leads the team in receiving yards (359) after a big game against the Aggies. Caleb Ducking and Rufus Harvey both have 24 receptions, with the former having a team-lead six touchdown catches.
