Here’s why I’m backing the bet below in my Wildcats Mountaineers free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Wildcats vs. Mountaineers Gameday
The Arizona Wildcats visit West Virginia at Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown on Saturday, October 10, 2026. Kickoff is noon ET on TNT for this Week 6 Big 12 matchup.
Arizona enters at 4-1 under Brent Brennan, including a 1-1 conference record. The Wildcats have won three straight and are making their first trip to Morgantown.
West Virginia is 3-2 under Rich Rodriguez after consecutive conference losses. The Mountaineers are 2-1 at home, where Saturday’s Coal Rush crowd should provide plenty of noise. Morgantown has never required much encouragement in that department.
Arizona brings momentum east, while Rodriguez welcomes his former program into a restless Morgantown atmosphere.
West Virginia won the programs’ first meeting 31-26 in Tucson in 2024. Rodriguez coached Arizona from 2012 through 2017, giving this reunion a little extra personality.
The Wildcats want to remain in the Big 12 race, while WVU needs its first conference victory. Rodriguez would probably prefer that milestone arrive against somebody he knows quite well.
It’s Week 6, Arizona Wildcats vs. West Virginia Mountaineers, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Arizona Wildcats vs. West Virginia Mountaineers Odds & Last 5
Arizona opened as a 3.5-point favorite at -167 on the moneyline, with West Virginia getting +3.5 and +139.
The Wildcats defeated Cincinnati 34-7 last Saturday, overwhelming an unbeaten opponent. Arizona also beat Washington State 34-24 during its current winning streak.
West Virginia lost 45-42 at Iowa State after taking a late lead. The Mountaineers previously fell 41-24 against Oklahoma State, allowing their conference opponents to score 86 combined points. Defensive coordinators generally prefer a smaller number.
Arizona has been the more consistent team, but the spread suggests a competitive afternoon. The Wildcats are 1-4 ATS, while WVU has covered two of its five games, with one sportsbook tracking service recording an additional push.
Bettors comparing prices at their preferred sportsbooks should pay attention to movement around the field goal. That extra half-point can make all the difference when backing an underdog.

Mountaineers Stats
West Virginia has scored 187 points through five games, averaging more than 37 per contest. The Mountaineers have rushed for 1,476 yards, ranking among the nation’s most productive ground attacks.
Cam Cook leads the running backs with 652 yards and five TD’s. His physical running has helped WVU sustain drives, even when opponents know what’s coming.
DJ Epps leads the receivers with 393 yards, providing an important complement to the ground game.
Defensively, West Virginia has surrendered 144 points while recording 12 sacks, three interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Missed tackles and explosive plays have been recurring problems against Big 12 opponents.
Running back Andre Devine and receiver Armoni Weaver-Bomar were ruled out on Thursday’s availability report. Tight end Cam Ball and cornerback Nick Taylor were doubtful, further testing WVU’s depth.
Rodriguez has built an offense capable of moving the chains, but the defense must provide more resistance. Asking the offense to win a track meet every Saturday isn’t much of a long-term strategy.
Wildcats Stats
Arizona has produced 1,482 passing yards and 781 rushing yards through five games. The Wildcats have scored 162 points, showing the ability to attack through either approach.
Kedrick Reescano leads the ground game with 218 yards and three TD’s. Antwan Roberts Jr. and Quincy Craig provide additional backfield options.
Arizona’s defense has allowed approximately 79 rushing yards per game, ranking among the nation’s best. The Wildcats held Cincinnati to just 74 yards on the ground, demonstrating their ability to control the line of scrimmage.
Arizona’s outstanding run defense faces a West Virginia attack determined to establish its ground game.
Receiver Tré Spivey is out for the season with a foot injury. Fellow starters Giovanni Richardson and Chris Hunter III were also ruled out for Saturday, along with tight end Cole Rusk.
Isaiah Mizell, Brandon Phelps and Rodney Gallagher are among the receivers expected to take on larger roles. That’s an opportunity for Arizona’s depth, although replacing three starters isn’t quite as easy as updating the depth chart.
Brennan has emphasized preparation and execution despite those setbacks. The Wildcats will need both against an opponent capable of keeping its offense on the sideline for extended stretches.

Wildcats vs. Mountaineers QB Matchup
West Virginia QB Michael Hawkins Jr. has thrown for 836 yards, seven TD’s and one interception. His mobility adds another dimension to an offense already committed to running the football.
Hawkins accounted for 376 yards of offense and four total TD’s against Iowa State. He’s especially dangerous when defenders lose containment and give him room to escape.
Arizona must maintain disciplined rush lanes without allowing easy completions behind its linebackers.
The Wildcats counter with Noah Fifita, who has thrown for 1,415 yards, 13 TD’s and three interceptions. He’s preparing for his 40th consecutive start, giving Arizona considerable experience under center.
Fifita completed 25 of 37 passes for 284 yards and two TD’s against Cincinnati. His ability to distribute the football will be tested by the changes around him.
Backup Sawyer Anderson has contributed 84 passing yards in limited action.

Hawkins presents the greater scrambling threat, while Fifita is the more accomplished passer. Their contrasting styles will force both defenses to adjust how they generate pressure.
West Virginia needs Hawkins to recognize coverage before abandoning the pocket. Fifita must identify pressure quickly and develop timing with his replacement receivers, particularly on third down.
Neither QB can afford careless turnovers in a matchup with the potential for quick scoring swings.
Arizona Wildcats vs. West Virginia Mountaineers bottom line: Fifita’s experience faces a vulnerable WVU secondary, while Hawkins must find running room against Arizona’s disciplined defensive front.

Wildcats Mountaineers Free Pick: WVU +3.5
Here is my Wildcats Mountaineers free pick: West Virginia Mountaineers +3.5. I’m taking more than a field goal with a home underdog facing a favorite that has suddenly lost much of its established receiving corps. Arizona still has talent, but replacing that many starters isn’t exactly a routine Saturday adjustment.
The Wildcats are 1-4 ATS this season, and I don’t love asking them to win comfortably on a cross-country trip. Rodriguez gets his former program in Morgantown, where a close game should keep the crowd involved from start to finish.
I’m betting West Virginia stays within one possession and makes Arizona earn every inch of this road victory.
WVU’s defense is the concern, and I won’t pretend otherwise. But with the hook on our side, a field-goal loss still cashes the ticket.
My play is on West Virginia +3.5.
