The College football season is once again upon us. The second game of the first day of the year features the Arizona Wildcats traveling to the Aloha State to face off against the Rainbow Warriors of Hawaii, live from Aloha Stadium right outside beautiful Honolulu, on the Island of Oahu.

Both teams really lit up the scoreboard last season, and I wouldn’t expect anything less in this first game, as the defenses will be kept busy all night long. Arizona leads the all time series five games to none, and are looking like the better of the two teams coming into this head to head matchup.
Arizona Wildcats
Second year head coach Kevin Sumlin will look to build on a five win season from a year ago, as his team will be eyeing a Bowl appearance this year. What better way to start the season than with a win, before they head home to take on Northern Arizona and Texas Tech to finish out their non-conference schedule.
The Wildcats are returning seven offensive starters, including last years preseason Heisman candidate Khalil Tate. This team will go as far as their young QB will take them, but the success will lie on whether or not Sumlin will let the speedster open up his game and let his legs do the talking for him. Tate did post a very good 25 passing TD’s in 2018, so the air game is still strong with this Wildcats team.

Arizona returns 8 starters on defense, including Colin Schooler, who led all Wildcats with 21.5 tackles for loss last season. Arizona will need to tighten up their defensive numbers if they want to compete in the tough Pac-12 South. They are coming off a year in which they gave up 432 yards per game for an average of 32.6 points per game.
Hawaii Rainbow Warriors
Hawaii didn’t do themselves any favors when scheduling their non-conference portion of their season. They open with three straight Pac-12 foes, with another home game vs. Oregon State after this one, before they head to #13 Washington on September 14th.
The Rainbow Warriors are returning their entire starting offensive line from a year ago, which will go a long way towards QB Cole McDonald’s attempt to try and build off of last years numbers of 3800 yards and 36 TD’s. McDonald will have a few of his favorite targets back with him this season as well, as Cedric Boyd and Jojo Ward will look to keep this high flying offense on the scoreboard all night long.

Hawaii returns nine players on defense, but like Arizona, their numbers from last year will have to drastically improve if they want to compete this season. The returning starters will be nice for head coach Nick Rolovich to have on the field, but if they can’t bring down the 439.7 yards per game, or 35.1 points per game from last year, then this team will be exactly where they were at the end of last season.

This one should be a high scoring affair, as both teams are returning many of their defensive players from last year, from teams that gave up a lot of points at both schools. Couple that with first game jitters, and you have a game that could go OVER the number by halftime.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Arizona -11
Hawaii’s offense should be explosive in this opening game, but as you see from the numbers above, the Rainbow Warriors don’t fare too well against the Pac-12 of late, and I think that will be the case once again here on Saturday night.
Take Arizona to win this game on the road. Take them to cover the spread, and for the total to go OVER the number.
