Great Danes vs. Bulls Gameday
The Albany Great Danes face the Buffalo Bulls to kick off Week 1 of the 2026 regular season.
The game takes place at UB Stadium in Buffalo, NY. Fans can tune in on ESPN+ at 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
Week 1 gives Albany a fresh start, while Buffalo gets an immediate chance to defend its home field.
Albany endured a rough start last season, finishing with an 0-1 record. The Great Danes lost their only game 34-7 against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Albany will be looking for a much better showing when it opens the 2026 season.
Buffalo finished last season with a 5-7 record as a member of the Mid-American Conference. The Bulls went 2-5 at home, showing there is plenty of room for improvement at UB Stadium. Buffalo also ended 2025 with a 31-26 home loss against the Ohio Bobcats.
This matchup marks the first time Albany and Buffalo will meet on the field. Both programs will look to start the 2026 season strong and leave last year’s results behind them. With no previous meetings to use as a reference, this Week 1 matchup brings some added unpredictability under the lights.

Albany Great Danes vs. Buffalo Bulls Odds & Last 5
Albany enters this Week 1 matchup as a significant betting underdog with a moneyline of +2000.
Buffalo sits at -7000 on the moneyline, making the Bulls the clear favorite. The point spread creates another sizable gap between these teams, with Albany getting +26.5.
Buffalo comes back at -26.5, showing the considerable advantage the betting market expects the Bulls to have on the field. Albany’s most recent outing came against Iowa in a difficult game where the Great Danes scored only 7 points. Buffalo also endured a challenging finish to last season, dropping a close game at home against the Ohio Bobcats.
The Great Danes have a large number to work with, while the Bulls will be looking for a stronger performance on their home field.
Bulls Stats
The Buffalo Bulls experienced a challenging season offensively, scoring 288 points to rank 75th overall.
Buffalo’s passing attack was more productive with 2,748 yards, placing the Bulls 64th in that category. However, the rushing game generated only 1,598 yards, ranking 94th overall.
Defensively, Buffalo allowed 282 points, which ranked the Bulls 97th. The defense was much stronger at creating pressure with 35 sacks to rank 7th and seven interceptions to rank 8th. Buffalo also recovered nine fumbles, putting the Bulls 6th in that category.
The Bulls suffered some difficult losses down the stretch, including a 31-26 defeat against the Ohio Bobcats. Great Danes vs. Bulls QB Matchup
Ta’Quan Roberson leads the Buffalo Bulls with some impressive production from the quarterback position.
Roberson has appeared in 11 games, throwing for 2,520 yards and ranking first on his team. He has also produced 17 passing touchdowns against 12 interceptions, showing both his playmaking ability and some areas that could improve.
Gunnar Gray has also appeared at quarterback for the Bulls, playing in four games. Gray has thrown for 228 yards while recording two touchdowns and two interceptions. His limited playing time suggests he is still developing his role within the Buffalo offense.
Jack Shields serves as the primary quarterback for the Albany Great Danes.
Shields has appeared in one game, throwing for 134 yards and one touchdown. He has not thrown an interception, providing a positive early sign when it comes to protecting the football.
His performance in that lone appearance showed some potential, although more games will be needed to fully evaluate his capabilities. Avoiding interceptions gives Shields a solid starting point. His development with additional playing time will be something to watch as the season progresses.
Albany Great Danes vs. Buffalo Bulls bottom line: Albany enters Week 1 looking for a much better showing after a difficult opening result last season, while Buffalo has a clear opportunity to improve on its home struggles and start the new campaign with some momentum.
Albany Great Danes vs. Buffalo Bulls Football Betting Trends

- Also, Albany is 0-3 straight up in their last 3 games after a loss.

- Additionally, Buffalo is 7-2 on the over in their last 9 games after a loss.
Great Danes Bulls Free Pick: Albany +26.5
Here is my Great Danes Bulls free pick: Buffalo may be the better team, but laying 26.5 points against an Albany squad that’s been useful as an underdog feels excessive. I’ll gladly grab the points.
Albany has covered in 3 of its last 4 games as an underdog, giving us a solid recent trend when the Great Danes are expected to lose. They’ve also performed well against the spread away from home.
Buffalo has been dependable straight up as a favorite, so an Albany upset isn’t what I’m chasing here. The Bulls went only 2-5 at home last season, which makes trusting them with this massive number tougher. Big difference.
Albany doesn’t need to win this game when 26.5 points gives the Great Danes plenty of room to cash our ticket.
However, Buffalo can control most of this matchup and still fail to cover. That’s the beauty of taking nearly 4 touchdowns with an underdog that’s shown some ATS toughness.
Does Buffalo really deserve this much respect at home?
I’m not convinced.
Additionally, Albany’s recent success as an underdog gives me something stronger than simply grabbing points because the spread looks enormous. Buffalo can win comfortably without getting anywhere near a 27-point margin.
My college football betting system points to Albany +26.5, and I’m trusting the Great Danes to stay inside this inflated number.
