Wildcats Stats
Kentucky’s offense produced 492 total yards in Stein’s debut as head coach. The Wildcats threw for 301 yards and rushed for 191, scoring 45 points while getting touchdowns from several different players.
Kenny Minchey immediately took control of the offense.

Crimson Tide vs. Wildcats QB Matchup
Kenny Minchey and Keelon Russell both passed their first starting tests without throwing an interception. Minchey delivered the bigger passing numbers, while Russell added a significant rushing element to Alabama’s offense.
Minchey’s Kentucky debut was about as efficient as Stein could have wanted.
The Notre Dame transfer completed two-thirds of his passes and threw four touchdowns to four different targets. Alabama’s defense presents an enormous step up, especially after allowing East Carolina only five first downs in Week 1.
Russell’s debut looked different but was still productive.
The freshman didn’t throw a touchdown pass, yet he accounted for 342 yards and consistently created problems with his legs. His 86 rushing yards led Alabama and helped the Crimson Tide finish with 227 yards on the ground.
Both quarterbacks now get their first SEC test of the season. Minchey has the home field and more college experience, while Russell is surrounded by an Alabama roster that can support him with its running game and defense.
Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Kentucky Wildcats bottom line: Alabama brings the stronger defense and deeper roster, while Kentucky’s revamped offense gets its first major test after an impressive debut under Will Stein.

Crimson Tide Wildcats Free Pick: Alabama -10.5
Here is my Crimson Tide Wildcats free pick: I’m laying Alabama -10.5 in Lexington. Kentucky looked sharp in Will Stein’s debut, but the Wildcats are stepping from Youngstown State into a completely different defensive challenge.
Alabama held East Carolina to 162 total yards and only five first downs. The Pirates went 0-for-9 on third down, and that kind of defensive control gives the Tide a chance to create separation without needing a huge passing day.
Keelon Russell can hurt Kentucky even when the passing game stalls.
Alabama’s defense can create the field position and extra possessions needed to cover this number.
Alabama’s freshman quarterback threw for 256 yards in his starting debut. He also led the Tide with 86 rushing yards and a touchdown. That extra dimension makes Alabama difficult to get off the field.
Kentucky has enough offense to make me respect the home dog.
Kenny Minchey threw four touchdowns against Youngstown State, while the Wildcats finished with 492 total yards. Still, Alabama represents a massive jump in speed and physicality, and Kentucky won’t get the same easy opportunities downfield.
The Tide also ran for 227 yards and five touchdowns in Week 1. If that ground game travels, Alabama can control the second half and make Kentucky chase.
I don’t need another 49-21 Alabama blowout like the last meeting in Lexington. Give me Alabama -10.5.
