It’s a FBS/FCS showdown on Saturday afternoon at Vanderbilt Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. The Alabama A&M Bulldogs make the trip to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores.
This is the first match up between the two teams in recent history.
Alabama A&M Bulldogs
The Alabama A&M Bulldogs were the first team to play the UAB Blazers since they reintroduced their football program and I can see why the Blazers scheduled them first.
Although it was close early on the Blazers pulled away in the second half and won by the final score of 38-7. Offensively they couldn’t get anything going and defensively they couldn’t stop anyone in the second half and it led to getting blown out.
The Bulldogs are led by Ageel Glass at quarterback, and he was not good in that game. He only threw for 101 yards and a touchdown and he also added an interception.
On the ground they went to a bunch of different guys hoping at least one of them could perform, and none of them could. The leading rusher only had 33 yards and that isn’t a recipe for success.
On the defensive side of the ball, they did decent against the pass, but really struggled against the run. They allowed 258 yards on the ground to the Blazers.
So what does this team need to do better in this game? Well for a simple answer they need to do everything better.
They need to get better offensive production, especially on the ground, and they need to slow down the Commodores on the defensive end.
On the other side of this match up is the Vanderbilt Commodores who have high hopes for this season, and got it kicked off on the right foot.
They played the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders in their first game, and many exptected it to be a real barn burner, but it was the farthest thing from that.
They got out to a fast start and cruised to an easy 28-6 victory. Junior quarterback Kyle Shurmur is the leader of this team, and he looked impressive in the opening game.
He threw for 296 yards and three touchdowns while completing over 71 percent of his passes. He didn’t throw an interception which is the key parts out of all of his stats.
On the defensive side of the ball the Commodores were dominant.
They only allowed 240 yards total and six points against a Blue Raiders team that usually runs up the score. This team is going to be good defensively and that will be key in this game.
This game will also probably be a good chance for some of the younger guys to get experience and playing time.
