The Akron Zips will face their 2nd straight big time opponent as they head into West Virginia to take on the Marshall Thundering Herd on Saturday.
The Zips were knocked around in Wisconsin last week, while Marshall comes in off a victory over FCS opponent Morgan State
The Akron Zips hung around in the first quarter defensively, but Wisconsin eventually wore them down and did what all good teams do and pulled away in the 2nd half.
The Zips offensive flaws were certainly exposed here, as they managed just 224 total yards.
This is going to be another case here where the Zips have to try and control the clock. They were smoked in the time of possession last week, allowing the Badgers to methodically move down the field and control the tempo of the game.
Akron has to find a way to continuously move the chains. To do that, getting in manageable third downs is a must. They found themselves on multiple occasions in 3rd and longs last Saturday, which forced them to try to make a deep pass, which is not their style of play.
The Zips will try to get Warren Ball some touches early. Ball has rushed for 181 yards this season.
Marshall Thundering Herd
The Thundering Herd started their season off last week with very little trouble, as they took care of business against Morgan State 62-0.
The Thundering Herd starting things off right for their backers too, covering the 42.5 point spread.
Marshall racked up 530 yards of total offense, showing they have both a potent passing and rushing attack.
It starts with QB Chase Litton. The sophomore threw for 309 yards and 6 touchdown passes last week. Big things are expected from Litton this season as the has a full year of experience under his belt.
Running wise, the Thundering Herd used 7 different rushers. RBs Keion Davis and Tony Pittman both will get a majority of the touches this season and are expect to be a giant part of this offense.
With a much more difficult defense this week, expect there to be a little more pressure in the Marshall backfield.
If Davis and Pittman can get going early, a lot of gaps could be open in the secondary for Litton.
