2019 Football Preview – SEC- Bulldogs
Looking for 2019 Mississippi State Bulldogs predictions? Mississippi State was hoping that Joe Moorhead could build upon the success that Dan Mullen had in Starkville. I am not saying he can’t but we have not seen it just yet. Residing in the SEC West is tough and they need to be better this season.

The fortunes of 2019 might ride on a transfer which is not necessarily the way you close the gap with Alabama.
2019 Mississippi State Bulldogs Predictions: Team Strengths
Strength in the Trenches: It isn’t always exciting but it is a good thing to have a strong offensive line, especially in the SEC.
While they figure out some other positions Mississippi State is very comfortable with a line featuring Daryl Williams at center. He is an NFL prospect.
They are massive up front with Williams the only projected lineman who is under 6’4″ or 330 pounds. They are not going to get pushed around.

They have experience too which means that even though they actually recruited a five star offensive line product they do not have to rush to get him on the field.
You Gotta Be Able to Cover: Mississippi State has had success producing some elite defensive players, especially up front. Last NFL Draft they lost a big time edge rusher and defensive tackle.
This season the strongest unit on the defense might be the secondary. Position coach Terrell Buckley knows a little something about talent and he is gushing about Cam Dantzler.
Brian Cole was a big time recruit at Michigan who just never found his game there. He can cover and make a difference rushing the passer which will give the Bulldogs a lot of versatility.
2019 Mississippi State Bulldogs Predictions: Team Weaknesses
You Gotta Have a Quarterback?: At Penn State Moorhead had a reputation as an offensive guru but the offense struggled last season, especially the passing game.
They are looking for a new starter and it is assumed that Penn State transfer Tommy Stevens will be it. He is a talented athlete but the reason he transferred was because he was not going to earn the job in Happy Valley. That says something.
If it is not Stevens it will be Keytaon Thompson. He is not much of a thrower but he can run. They want to balance the offense so they need production from under center.

When you send two defensive linemen to the NFL your group takes a hit. Especially if you are not Alabama.
The Bulldogs also graduated a number of players up front so they are looking for some new stars to emerge. Chauncey Rivers couldn’t breakthrough at Georgia but showed promise for Mississippi State.
The linebacking crew looks good but those guys can get beat up pretty quickly if the guys up front can’t get the job done. Erroll Thompson is a stud though.
Mississippi State Bulldogs Prediction: 7-5
The SEC West is super tough once again. The Bulldogs are probably better than Ole Miss and Arkansas but thats it.
The nonconference schedule lets them ease into things though. They should be 3-0 after home games against Lafayette, Southerm Miss and Kansas State who is down this season. Abilene Christian in November is essentially a bye week before the Egg Bowl.
Crossover game at home against Kentucky should give the Bulldogs a chance to be 4-0 before they have to go to Auburn and Tennessee back to back. They need to get both of those if they are going to get back to eight wins this season. A split is more likely.

They have a week off in November before hosting Alabama but that extra time is not going to be enough for them to break the Tide. This is a good team that will when when it is supposed to bit not much more. Maybe they will be a little more free wheeling than they have been in the past though.
