2019 Football Preview – Mountain West – Bulldogs
Looking for 2019 Fresno State Bulldogs predictions? Fresno State has been having good success with the return of Jeff Tedford to the college game. Boise State and San Diego State may grab the majority of the headlines in the Mountain West but the last time they did this much winning was in the last century. The good times can continue too.

The Bulldogs are the defending MWC champs. The beat the Broncos for the first time on the blue turf to take the title. Can this team go even further and represent the Group of Five this season?
2019 Fresno State Bulldogs Predictions: Team Strengths
Keeping it Simple: Tedford has found success pretty much every where he has been. He is not a system guy though and they are never gimmicky.
They have their two best running backs returning and questions at quarterback so they will look to establish the run. Having a QB that can run too could prove very advantageous.
Ron Rivers is the son of an NFLer and Jordan Mims is the other major returning back. Neither is that big though so they do not come down hill at you.
Kizer was much more efficient in the spring game, but it’s unknown who will get the starting job. However, having this dilemma is quite the blessing as either QB can lead this team to an impressive season.
Keeping it Tight: The best prospect on the team this season might be at TE.
Jared Rice caught 55 balls last season which was 3rd in the nation for the position. Oddly that was only good for second team MWC.
Fresno State has recruited the position well adding a couple of three star prospects and expects to play multiple tight ends. That should help protect the QB and spring the ground game.
2019 Fresno State Bulldogs Predictions: Team Weaknesses
It Starts at QB?: Throughout their recent run of success the Bulldogs has Marcus McMaryion at quarterback.
The former PAC 12 recruit provided talent and composure but has graduated, leaving a void.
The most obvious replacement is Jorge Reyna. Reyna is more the dual threat variety and even though he is a senior he does not have a lot of experience. He was a JUCO guy who then redshirted and has been in the program a few years though.
Only 20 % of offensive line starts are returning for the Bulldogs this season.
They are hoping for a full recover from junior Netane Muti who missed all but two games and when he is healthy he is probably the team’s best linemen.
In the middle there are lots of question marks and they need that unit to come together. These days you can completely blow up play calls if the interior of the line is not right. Plus they want to run the ball and protect the quarterback. This group has to get on the same page quickly. .
Fresno State Bulldogs Prediction: 9-3
The season is likely to start on a down note with the first game at USC.
After that there are not a lot of spots where they will be expected to lose, even with the questions surrounding the team.
I do not like the visit to San Diego State but the Bulldogs miss Boise in the Mountain West this season. Utah State is always a tough out but they get them at home.
They have two relatively early bye weeks which could be good for development. They do play in eight consecutive weeks though, beginning with October 12th. If their depth falters it could get a little thin quickly.
