Buffalo was a surprise with 10 wins a year ago. Getting more than half of that this season might be considered a success.
2019 Buffalo Bulls Predictions: Team Strengths
Running the Ball: Last year Jaret Patterson rushed for over 1000 yards as a freshman. He will be the focal point of the offense this season.
Up front the Bulls have three offensive linemen returning. They should be the strength of the team even though they are looking at a freshman at center.
Tomas Jack-Kurdyla is a fourth starter who looks like he has been pushed to the bench. Being able to make those kinds of decisions shows depth in the program.

Last year the Bulls averaged close to 190ypg on the ground, 4th best in the conference. They should be able to match or exceed that this season. They might have to.
Strength up the Middle on D: This is definitely a relative strength with just two returning starters from a defense that was good a year ago.
The first is middle linebacker James Patterson. He is the twin brother of the aforementioned Jaret and he led the team in tackles last season.
The only other returning starter on D is senior safety Joey Banks. He brings a physical presence to the back middle of the defense.
2019 Buffalo Bulls Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Smooth Offense: Last season the Bulls were third in the conference with a pretty balanced offense. This season the key elements of that passing attack are gone.
Kyle Vantrease is a sophomore looking to succeed in the role of first time starter. He threw only 20 passes in game action a year ago.
Charlie Jones is looking to be the leading receiver this season. Also just a sophomore he showed big play ability as a freshman but only caught 18 passes a year ago. The other two starting receivers are first time starters as well.

This is going to be one of the youngest teams in the country this season, on offense and defense.
According to projected depth charts 9 of 22 starters are going to be freshmen or sophomores. A bunch like the Pattersons got some real time last season but that is still a youthful group.
Leipold is one of those guys who had a tone of success below the FBS level. Last season was his best season at Buffalo and this season might be the best indication of what he has as a program builder.
Buffalo Bulls Prediction: 9-3
Buffalo had a really good season a year ago, 10 wins includes road wins at Temple and at Rutgers. They lost the MAC title game by just a point.
The start to the season should be OK but a trip to Penn State could be bloody. The Lions should be really good on defense this season and that might be tough for the Bulls. Wins against Robert Morris and Liberty are probable and Temple comes to UB.
In the MAC they have the advantage of getting the better teams on their schedule at home. The league does not look like it is going to have a dominant team this season so there are going to be a lot of coin flip games. They should have a chance in most games.

They should be able to get to a bowl game this season and be a dominant team a year from now. Between 6-8 wins is very likely but picking the best spots is going to be tough.
