2018 UNLV Rebels Predictions: Team Strengths

Rushing Game: The Rebels had one of the greatest one-two combos in the back field as they ran the ball over 65% in every game. With a quarterback in Rogers who has the potential to run the ball when given, he also has the option for the senior of Lexington Thomas.

Last season Thomas finished the year with 1,336 rushing yards and 17 TD’s. The best part of those stats was the 6.3 yards per carry as it would open up the passing game.

Another plus about the offense is the depth they have in the backfield with Sophomore Charles Williams and senior Xzaviar Campbell who can easily run up and down the field.

The running game is going to be the highlight of the team again as they averaged around 215 rushing yards per game last season. They were ranked in the top 20 in rushing in CFB as they should continue.

2018 UNLV Rebels Predictions Team Weaknesses:

Ouch Defese: The defense has been one of the worst parts of this football team so far, but to turn some bad news into good news, the Rebels now have a new defensive coordinator in the name of Tim Skipper.

Skipper is coming from Florida as he spent his three years coaching the linebackers and running backs. However he has a TON of work to do with this team as the Rebels allowed an average of 31.8 points last season.

Even though the Rebels have a great running game themselves, they cannot stop the run either on the other side of the ball. Last season they averaged 239.2 yards per game on the ground.

The defense needs to step it up big time, as the Rebels offense does not have a full power offensive attack. With Skipper now under the helm, they should be able to turn it around.

UNLV Rebels Prediction: 6-6

The Rebels have a huge improvement in the upcoming season as they finish with a 6-6 record. The defense improves ten-fold, but they do lose some key losses on the schedule including Nevada.

What separates this team from the top teams in the conference is a passing game. With opposing teams are able to shut down their only scoring method of a run game, they get shutdown very fast.

They have a very favorable home schedule as they should be able to win those, however they have a rough opening frame. If they can turn it around quickly they might be able to get a bowl game.
